Proposal Discussion Procedural Generation mods

I don't know a lot about procedural generation but I understand that it is used to create planets, stars, trading, mineral locations and in general whole universe except ships.

My question is, will modders be able to create their own algorithms for their planets/universe creations? I believe people will come with some ingenious ideas of making planets and systems look incredible.

I would like to be able to shape almost every aspect of the game by creating such algorithms (minerals locations, trading, etc).

Is it possible we will get it?

(Btw, it would be nice if modders could upload high dev textures for their creations as well. I think this is obvious..)

For the MP, no. For SP, I think that FD are considering a modding tools expansion down the line. Its not a high priority though.

Having said that, if the game is popular there will be a lot of untapped potential from the community for content generation in the game. Hopefully FD will find a way to take that into account. ;)

For the multiplayer, Frontier must have the exclusivity at 100% on the galaxy. No external intervention at the studio of Frontier. It is essential to preserve the authenticity of the Galaxy of Elite. This is only my opinion, of course

I would think that they will need good tools to create those algorithms anyway so if they just share them after it would be a blast :) But I may be wrong and they tools may be too raw for others to use.

Modders could create their owns servers to test their mods and have fun with some friends. But important thing would be, that creations made by modders could trigger some nice changes in the official version of the game down the line. Also because this universe is so wast we won't have to fully preserve it for new players and some things may be constantly changing (even planets may blow up :)). Procedural generation of the universe should allow whole universe to be very dynamic and not necessarily to be static (and I'm talking here planets locations, stars and all the rest).

I find it a little heterogeneous. I prefer the homogeneity of the development team of Frontier, who will be quite dynamic also, I think

:)
