Procedural Mega City in Unity Engine

It looks cool I hope Frontier is also working on this for the Cobra Engine.

Mega City is a project built on our preview data oriented design tech alongside tons of optimizations we're aiming to bring to Unity in 2019.

Discovered this on the SC thread. Outside of the tech buzzwords, it looks really nice. Makes one wish for a 5th Element taxi driver sim.

Anyone remember Hardwar?

I would be really up for a more planet bound game akin to the Egosoft X games, where you start out with some rust bucket hover cab and gradually build up an empire.

It is impressive stress test have to say. Cobra most likely is capable to scale up like that too, but for Unity as off the shelf engine this is incredible feat. Also Unity's biggest strength is accessibility to indie developers.

I hope performance increases gained across the board as Unity is one of those engines that often doesn't work well for my rig. I can play any of those open world games like Ghost Recon: Wildlands, with insane draw distances at 120fps+ but a quick game of Satellite Reign yields different results.

Unity never struck me as a performance wonder. Rather the opposite. So I guess it's good they did improve it - it's quite a popular engine among indie devs. And that's where I got a couple of very good games from in recent past.

Awesome! thanks for sharing, I would have completely missed this otherwise.

Reminds me a little of the Aircar VR tech demo for Oculus (which is really cool and worth a look if you have one) but SOOOOO much better.

Gives one hope that one day we really could be landing on populated planets in ED.

I wouldn't call a scenery that was built by an interdisciplinary team over "a few months" (1:58:35) in a rather manual way "procedural" for the intents and purposes of a game like E:D

Technically not procedural (in terms of being infinite scrolling)....but how assets are streamed in and out of memory could lend well for a Procedural landscape.

The Best practices for how the assets are designed in hierarchical chunks lend itself to procedural generation too.

Project is now Downloadable with video tutorials here: https://unity.com/megacity

I have the project opened right now and digging through it (preliminary there is some weirdness in VR I'm sorting out).
