Procedurally-generated giant stars

It occurred to me, only last night, that after several months worth of exploring by plotting what are essentially random courses across the galaxy, that I was yet to encounter a procedurally-generated giant or supergiant star. Now, I usually navigate with the galaxy map set to Star Class, not Realistic mode, so I don't usually notice which nearby stars are giants and which are not. And since most giants are K-class or M-class and I filter those star classes out, it also should not be surprising that I miss most of them.

Just now, however, I finally stumble across one - an F-class white supergiant, no less.

I have now looked at the Realistic view of my road ahead and found a K-class giant I can stop at. But, if I could add to my QoL wishlist, I'd add "allow filtering out of M-class and K-class dwarfs in the route plotter but keep M and K giants in the list", since the giants are much more likely than the dwarfs to have a planet in the goldilocks zone.

Meh, with time you'll get the hang of it. I found dozens of giants in a matter of hours, some were close binary giants too.

Largest procedure generated supergiants are A and B class. Seems there is a hard limit of 500RSol to their size.
My route plotter is always set on realistic mode but even so jumping randomly on a giant star of any kind is extremely rare. If you are interested in big heavy stars, you should search for AA-A systems.

I found the giants away from the core like to float over the rest of the stars, often by them self's or in little groups, high above the plane. I am almost always able to find a giant (usually a K) at around 1kly for plots in the realistic map. It takes a few minuets sometimes but there always seems to be one hiding there somewhere. If you want to find a lot/farm them, high on the ends of the bars is a prime spot with numerous classes in close proximity. A good place to put your name on some of the hard capped 499.9 radius stars.

I do the same thing -- use giant stars as 1kly waypoints in areas outside the core -- though I tend to look for them below the galactic plane. They tend to come in clusters or strings of 10-20 or so. Mostly red giants with the occasional orange giant or S star. I've only found two proc gen blue giants outside the core, but I've never found a proc gen F -- frankly, I didn't think they were possible.

Here is an F that I just ran across a few minutes ago...

I'm currently only out 5kly between the Perseus and the Outer arms at the bottom of the galactic plane.
I have scanned around 6 Red Giants so far, with another 10 or so bookmarked on my route.
I'm hoping to find other Giants while out here.

Fly safe.

Go to around 1000-1100ly above or below the plane. Plenty of K/M/CJ/CN/S/MS giants there. Also the occasional F.
