Hi

Although no one knows what kind of things you will be able to do in Elite 4, there are a few basic professions that are constant in most space sims. Even though most people do a mixture of things, I thought it would be interesting to see which career path everyone would choose if they had to pick just one.

I'd definatly choose to be a trader

Cheers

I enjoy the life of bounty hunting in Frontier Elite II, and i remember how hard it was to learn how to do it. What I love about FE2 bounty hunting in contrary to other space games, is the way you have to solve it. You only get the registration number en where and when the ship leave. In other games you automatically target the subject ship, and this destroys the feeling of bounty hunting.

I always wanted to be a pirate in FE2, but it is so difficult to pick up the loot when you don't have direct control over all thrusters. It would be easier if you could chose the loot as the relative target, so you could steer the ship towards it easily.

The idea of mining was interested but I got boring so quickly, I hope Elite 4 will make it more fun and interesting. I hope there will be more different and new generated missions in the Elite 4 BBS, the more variety there is the more real it feels.

If I were bound to only one choice, I would most likely choose being an Assassin. Either military or for hire. It pays well once you get to competent and you're never to confined to one area of space.

Though it's never fun sticking to one profession, and I usually did some trading in between mission times. The goods were of dubious legality but customs and excise were kept on a need to know basis. :D

Poll states : Attributes are not proportional

I am Humanoid. Evolution made me. My arributes are Trade, Agression and Diplomacy. I start off as a Trader. I make sure everybody likes me so I obey the law. My life at this point can be described as trade, upgrade, trade, upgrade, trade, upgrade, trade, upgrade. At some point I get bored. Smuggling no longer being entertaining. I sign up with the military. I run errands. My rank increases. I am allowed to take on more excitng missions. Wicked people. I kill them or they kill me. I read the bulletin. And take the assination-missions that are the most difficult and really pay well. I learn. I get really good in doing my job. I meet people and get to see places. I get recognized for my work. I am allowed to at first photograph installations at places and finally bomb them. By this time my life can be described as a working man. I get bored. I buy things. I take off now and then for a short holiday. I fly around in he universe at my leisure, preferring star systems with governmenttype anarchy. After that I return to work. I mingle with people, talk with them, listen to them, laugh with them and buy them a drink. Goal : to be were you want to be. =Diplomacy. I have a beautiful spacecraft, metallic, new model. I have a rankingstatus to be admired. I have a bundle of cash. There is not a thing not to like about me. I am Humanoid. My arributes are Diplomacy, Trade, and Agression.
:D Trader? Bulldroppings. :D

Retired Hooligan

Found this little poll and thought I would resurrect it. I am with Crayfish on this one. I loved exploring, but only after a long and inglorious career as a galactic hooligan! :D I just loved stirring up a Viper nest. These days though, I can appreciate the real depth of the Elite games and exploration is my thing these days. Just as well too as my combat skills sure are not what they used to be!

decidet to mining but for exact the same reason, exploring. i like at least all aspects eaven scooping up goods. hey FE2 it's easy scooping, target object engage autopilot (try a couple of aproaches in 2x/3x time until your'e really align with it), when course and speed is ok switch to manual (wired) and at a distance of <0.02km lift the nose a bit (scoop's on bottom, thats relevant), "slurp". i notified not all ships act exactly the same in FE2, with big ships it could be hard to scoop goods, mass, size (pos of scoop) could give some problems to handle them. in ffe i had to use a bit a different tactic but generally it's the same and the tractor beam makes life a lot (too) easier. non moving (slowly orbiting) objects like the artefacts in the missions are a bit harder, you will have to aproach manually and very slowly.
i think it should be less easy to smuggle, just save the game and reaproach landing/docking (i know it gets harder after a couple of times) things like that and the sometimes too exceeding prices, steals the the life out of pirating or mining,
i think you should have to learn to maneuvre your spacecraft right (landing, docking, scooping, navigating) before you ever get an autopilot, weapons or a new ship

Yea, scooping could be tricky at times Potsmoke, especially so with the bigger ships. Trick is to take your time, small thruster bursts and use the targeting tunnels to help.

Hey, like that little Amiga picture! Would make a good avvie that would! :)

bananascope, can't fight but has a bounty hunter as avatar, funny. at least you get yours while others still wait. ok doesn't matter i spice it up myself :D, sadly we can't play together, lot of us could show you how to be a classy pirat/assasin (i think).

Illegal puppy breeder. That would be a good profession! Put a copy of Dogz in the code as an easter egg.

Then unlock illegal puppy smuggling.

Hooligan! Just like me:D

 Love causing mayhem and destruction at stations and space ports, really peeing off the local police and ducking and diving about avoiding all the lasers and missiles.

I'll grow up one day.....maybe

Certainly in all other aspects of life, but................ not in Elite, no not ever ever ever! Well as long as my sight lasts anyways! :D

Taking a tip from Turwhitt, here is my ratings:
Commander: GERI
Elite Federation Rating: Deadly
Imperial Rank: Outsider
Federal Rank None
Criminal Record: Lets not go there
Current (Only) Vessel: Sidewinder (heavily modded)
Speciality: Hooligan (retired)
Based: Anywhere I can land!

I might add here, that was my original ratings for FE2 on the Amiga, with FFE3D I am back at the start. Lookin on the bright side though, at least my records clean these days!

I'm with Crayfish: explorer. I'm hoping E4 will have a universe that is worth going to the outer limits. It would be great if there are high value items which can only be found by going to distant, dangerous places. I want to boldly go where no man has....wait, wrong fictional universe!
