Engineers Professor Palin Can’t Find Distance Traveled

Hi,

After a lot of griding a finally gained knowledge of Palin and one of the requirements is that you have traveled at least 5,000 LY from your starting system, however even though my data shows I have traveled 37,349LY I have not been invited to the beginner or it’s location.

I have also noticed that on the engineers panel it says I have not traveled any distance at all which can’t be right.

hope someone can help me on this, thanks

Yep, what Northpin said, it's not total distance flown, but the straight-line distance from your starting system. This distance can be seen in the Codex under your exploration stats. I'm curious what it says. :)
Ok thanks, I haven’t been able to find that option though but have planned a long trip to the Nebula of 123 jumps which is 6,243 LY

On the right-hand panel in the home tab, select Codex -> Commander -> Stats -> Exploration. Look at "Max distance from start" instead of "Total hyperspace distance". It is literally on the same page.
Hi found it and it says I have done 808LY however on the engineer tab for Palin it says I have not covered any distance at all?

I would not trust the engineer tab. If I remember correctly, it said 0 for me until I reached 5 kly in max distance from start. When I reached 5 kly, the invitation came along fine.

You have to get through access grade 3.5 from Marco to get Palin's invite. have you done this? Not sure if that could be the reason the current distance doesn't show under Palin in the codex. It's been several years since I've done these engineers.

When I did the Palin trip, I used some of the exploration data to get allied with Sirius corps to get the permit for Marco, which in turn opened up Palin. It was just a couple days from returning from the trip until I had unlocked both Marco and Palin and gotten Palin to G5 access. Fast track.

Hi luckily it’s working now and have got invation and unlocked so all good now, it just didn’t show up until I had done the 5000LY travel

Yep, i'f I'd read ahead on this I'd have done the 5000ly trip before getting the Sirius permit and sold the data to get allied with Sirius Corp and done Qwent and Palin in one hit. I suppose you still have to get the Sensor Fragments for Palin which are a bit of a pain too

Getting the Sensor Fragments doesn't take too long, I picked them up at the crashed Thargoid ship in HIP 17403 planet A 4 A.

However, I got to the Prof and discovered I have not travelled the 5K LY from start. I am 4K short. So I am transferring my DBX to Palin's base and going on a little trip.

Yeah they aren't difficult but it's a bit dull having to re-log to reset the instance to get enough. There's a small abandoned human settlement not too far from the crashed Thargoid ship which is worth a visit while there too

As soon as you've hit 5k ly you'll get an incoming message with the invite so you don't need to check. Pick an uninteresting looking region 5k ly away not on the way to anywhere and you'll be swimming in new discoveries on every jump before long too so you can easily boost your Exploration rank and make a good chunk of credits too. Just filter out the dwarf and carbon stars, keep it to orange/yellow/white/blue stars as they tend to have the more valuable planets.

I am already about 1.5K Ly out, headed toward the California nebula to start and am honking and scanning my way to that 5K mark
