Profit Scanner & First Find Bonus

Hey guys

Firstly has anyone tried this profit scanner and have it working properly, i don't seem to be getting much feed back from it

also does the 50% first discovery bonus still apply?

i am at 59% Pioneer on my main account and i want to finish the Exploration rank and get it to elite before i launch my new exploration account from colonia, my OCD wont allow it not to be complete.

Profit scanner? Do you mean the Detailed Surface Scanner? If so then the only feedback is extra planet info in the sysmap.

Every body has a value - selling the data you get, IIRC, 1/6 for a honk (discovery scanner), 1/2 for a basic scan (no DSS on board) and the full amount for a DSS scan (500Cr minimum).

+50% for first discovery still applies.

Not a clue, that's hardly exploring ;)

If you're using it you'll mostly not be getting first discoveries and so not be seeing the bonus. The video is pretty close to the bubble, it might be less useful further out?

Profit Scanner

I am using the scanner, but have found a few bugs to be ironed out. But saying this, it a new kid on the block.

The Elite Dangerous Profit Scanner uses data that has been collected by EDSM, so that means they have already been scanned and logged by other commanders. So first find bonuses will be very rare, if any. It will only detect other planets it knows about... ie scanned by other commanders.

But i have found it usefull for getting the credits faster. Make sure you check the system you jump into as sometimes it does not list all the planets which gives good reward. This is because not all planets have been scanned by commanders, who were connected to database uploader.

Profit scanner...

A) It's hardly exploring, following in someones footsteps scan for scan.
B) If its about the profit, then your man in the video missed at least 2 more HMC's in that system because he was too busy following someone else's footsteps.
C) No bonus for following someone else's footsteps.

D) YOUR MISSING OUT ON SO MUCH MORE THAT IS OUT THERE!

Aaand here we go again.
It was inevitable.

I would actually recommend considering going out there and finding undiscovered stuff on your own. With the habitable zone calculator (so you can quickly grab those TCs, even the HMCPs) and the first discovery bonus, I believe you'd get more profits, or at least equal to what you'd get with re-scanning already found stuff. Then there's the added benefit of doing exploration, getting your name out on stuff, and even getting some achievements (either on consoles or EDSM) if you care about those.
After all, you can slap together a decent exploration ship very quickly, and then it's, what, half an hour to get to territories with plenty of unexplored systems?

The "profit scanner" can't know about any system, profitable or not, unless someone else has already been there. I'm guessing it gets it's data from EDDN.
Therefore it's highly likely it will be of no use deep in the black when you're in an area where all the systems around you are undiscovered. The software will have no data for the systems near you on your route.
It's just for players in the bubble who want to make exploration profit without really exploring

If it's getting it's data from EDDN, and someone actually gets a first discovered bonus from using it, that means that another commander, the one who actually went out and found it first got their tag and bonus sniped.

I should have explained myself better

I have my main bubble account which up to the release of 2.4 was at an exploration rank of 59% pioneer. Im well into the art of exploration but felt i was constantly stalling doing it properly because i also didn't want to miss out on the rest of the features that were coming in the game. I created a new account 3months before 2.4 cam out wizzed around and made a load of money, bought some ships and unlocked and did a load of engineering and thus my Colonia fleet was born which consists of an xAnaconda, AspX, Python for trading and Mining, corvette and an FDL, i flew the vette to Colonia, shipped the rest and now the account resides in Colonia ready to go, the likelyhood is that apart from the anaconda the rest of the ships aren't likely to be seen again as i intend to thrown the conda into the black and return to Colonia on very rare occasions. With the planetary changes coming in quarter 1 i want to launch it then.

As this is going to be an exploring account i have no real need to do any exploring in my main account but its at 59% Pioneer and i couldn't let that just stay like i wanted it to be Elite so by doing some math i worked out its roughly 3M per 1% of rank and for the last 3 weeks i have been exploring south of SAG A in a big loop stopping off at Colonia to drop data and then heading home (as of right now i have 70 jumps left)

I want my names on the systems and have been scanning like crazy, lots of HMC worlds and found five earth likes along the way and i would say 95%+ of all the systems have been never previously been explored, in total i will have done nearly 50,000ly. I only found the Profit scanner a few days ago

I thought because this trip was about finishing off rank i though the profit scanner was a good way to keep track of the money i was making but it never showed the details of the systems around me, i though maybe it was broken or i wasn't using it correctly, now i know from the replies that its probably fine i just have been anywhere that's been explored previously. I'll not be using it my new account, theres no point as i'm not interested in the money or rank with that account, they'll take care of themselves.

Fair enough - if keeping track of (roughly) how much money you're accruing in exploration credits (plus a host of other stats and useful things like maps of where you've been) you'd be better off with ED Discovery - link in my sig.

I second what iain has said above just use ED Discovery, as once you've scanned the primary star it gives you the Habitable Range to scan for the best chance of Terraformable Worlds.
you can aslo export out to excel if you need a cost breakdown of everything scanned.

I've just come back from a 4 month trip to Beagle Point, scanning the primary star at each jump, and any likely Terraformable candidate in the "Hab zone"

I also cherry picked type II Gas Giants, Neutron & White Dwarfs. also visited some really cool nebula along the route.

I stopped off in the Zunou GS-B region on the return leg and used ED Pathfinder for a couple of hundred ELW systems, just for a bit of variation and to see how crazy the sector is for myself.

In total I clocked up 42 first discoveries on ELW's and a couple of hundred TF WW's on the trip.

yes, admittedly, i made loads of money on this trip (the lvl 5 LYR bonus helped with the payout), but i really enjoyed myself in the process. don't look at going exploring into the black just for profit and rank, they're natural byproducts of exploration.

Look at it this way..

if you find something really cool in an undiscovered system, there's a very good chance that you are the first player to have seen it.

There's already a guide out there to take you to elite exploration in no time at all by following a course around all the most profitable systems.

Look if that's your thing I don't really care, I wouldn't use it, finding new stuff is what exploration is about for me, not money, or rank.

Okay, look: quit being Exploration snobs you lot. Some people just aren't into exploring' 'round the Galaxy and just want the triple elite bragging rights so they can go back to THEIR game.

I wouldn't use it myself; I love going out away from the bubble, but some don't. I shovelled... stuff... for weeks on the Sophis run to get the rep and money for my Corvette. Some think doing these missions purely for the grind is stupid but I don't care.

Someone's developed a tool to get you to a grade in Exploration the easy way, well that's fine; not for me but fine.

So let's talk about why playing in Solo is such a bad idea. I'M KIDDING! ;)

I don't have a problem with it in principle but I hope it doesn't lead someone to a system I've scanned but haven't turned in. Obviously the odds are astronomically against it, but such a thing could be a disincentive to using EDDiscovery until I reach a station.
