Progress to next exploration rank lost

Impact on game: Loss of progress
Version Found: 1.2.03
Frequency: All CMDR's with exploration data
Description:

Profits for exploration data have been increased and the profits required for "ranking" up have been balanced[1] so that the effort remains the same. No one will lose rank if in the balancing they are now below the new target and it will remain the same but will need to find the new amount of profit to get to the next level[2].

This sounds great. Except for existing explorers who unless lucky to have just "ranked up" will lose progress unless you update the current exploration profit for *all* commanders to match the new higher limits or individually reduce the requirements on a per-user basis.

Examples:

20M Profit, Rank of Ranger, needed ~10M to get to Pioneer. Now Pioneer is at ~60M needs 40M more which is twice the previous effort required to achieve the next rank.
78M Profit, Rank of Pioneer, needed ~1M to get to Elite. Now Elite is at ~158M needs 80M(!!!) More which is forty times the previous effort required to achieve the next rank.

Please resolve this.

PS Getting a windfall of the exploration cash would be nice too.

I'd also like to know if this is being resolved. I dont mind so much about the windfall of cash but doubling our existing 'progress' to match the new doubled ranks would fix it.

Lets put it this way.. someone who started exploring right now... would have to scan considerably less systems to get to elite than I would with my halfway progress with the old system and half with the new system. It gets worse the closer to elite you were before the last patch.

Another Explorer well on his way to Elite who would not appreciate having his progress halfed. And same as Cmdr _Dastardly_ I don't care about the Credits either.

What we really need is for Michael to urgently explain what the position really is. Two ambiguous statements in the patch thread leave us not knowing where we are, despite asking the right questions straight away. If they have not effectively doubled the exploration earnings already banked then ranking up has got significantly harder.

+1
I am at 8.5M credits from Exploration, and believe I needed about 9M for RANGER rank. I was about 95% there, this change implies I am now thrown back to being only about 50% there.

THE RATIO/% OF PROGRESS TO NEXT RANK NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED.

thanks
Dave

Here is my solution from my own thread (had not seen this thread):

SOLUTION:
How about making already sold data count for twice the amount on the rank progression scale alone (not in a monetary sense)? That would ensure everyone is in the right place on the rank progression scale.

Seems to me that, if the exploration ranks are based on credits earned, the easiest way to fix this is just to give massive piles of cash to all the explorers who cashed in data before the latest patch, to make up the difference.

mmm, massive piles of cash.

I previously dissed Fastdruids take on this, but I've read more, and mulled over it for a while and have come to agree with his thoughts.

Fastdruid, please accept my apology for not really taking the time to consider what it was you were actually trying to say.

*Feels better now*

This is what I put in another thread :

New player starting today would have to scan 3448 Neutron stars to get from zero to elite. (58,000 credits * 3389 = 200mil)
Existing player with 40mil explored would have had to scan 1379 Neutron stars to get that 40 mil + a further 2758 to get to Elite = 4137 Stars scanned to get to elite.

Thats 16% more, quite a lot really.

The type of star does not really matter, the increase is the same regardless.

FIX IN PROGRESS - post from Edward Lewis (community mgr) over on another thread:

Hey there, just working on a fix for this at the moment - I think those who have been affected such as yourself will be satisfied with the solution. The rate that you achieve ranks in the game remains the same as it did before. We've doubled the benefit for scanning bodies, based on that we're doubling the required value to achieve Elite ranks. We're now looking in to a way to make sure that progress you made between ranks isn't lost.

minor panic over.
:)

+1 from me. I'm about to get back after about 10K LY of exploration. Before I left I was just 900K off my next rank but expect that when I get back I'll still be at least 900K off the next rank - unless my previous progress is weighted in line with the suggestions here..... I also don't care about getting extra credits to spend, just my position in the progression.

Just a bit confused.... So I (before the update) needed around 700k to get to Ranger, what do I need now?

Until fixed - 9700000.

As the earnings are roughly 2x the next rank up is now also roughly 2x so 18million instead of 9million so you need to earn 9million and as a bonus still need that 700k!

As you've earn't 8300000 you now need to do 6x the work to reach Ranger than you would have before the update. After that point it reverts to being fine.

Not an explorer myself, so I really didnt understand what the issue was until the later comments, esp the one 3 comments above mine. WOW - yeah, thats a big no-no in my book. I really hope they fix this for you guys. You have my support in this

A fix was put out for this where we manually adjusted people's progress to make sure they weren't at a disadvantage if this change affected them. It was deployed shortly after my reply... sorry I didn't update you on it sooner!

And then
I might have confused things by saying manual, sorry. Everyone's progress should have been adjusted accordingly.
