Introducing Project Queeg - First Pass.

A passion project. Recently I installed the ASTRA voice pack for Voice attack
I had an itch to create a character to intergrate with an AI. Keeping solo players company AND helping
new, inexperienced players with advice and notifications.

The design goals here are:
  1. Create a likable but unique character to intergrate into other AI like hacks.
  2. All character dialogue must be modular, clear, characterised, useful etc (basically no time wasting)
  3. Design (but not build!) the mod with feedback from the ED community.

FULL FIRST PASS The meat of the post, the point even!
Doesnt load because tumblr is garbage? No problem. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

I'd like feedback, as much as players can provide to develop this further. **BUT IT WILL NOT BE A FULLY DEVELOPED MOD (See FAQ below!)

The feedback will shape the second pass and how the character(s) evolve.

When is the second pass? I plan to have it out in a similar state in two weeks depending on feedback.
The character will change according to feedback I chose to take onboard and I'll add more functionality, extras etc. But that's subject to change obviously.

For the second pass I want:
  1. To adjust the colours a touch
  2. Make her 'belong' in the cockpit better.
  3. Maybe adjust the design a tiny bit to allow for better reading emotions.

pre-emptive FAQ:
Q: Will this be a downloadable mod for ED?
Short answer: No. Long answer: God no. As far as I know there is no API or modding tools for ED (for good reason) and so to impliment Queeg into a mod for ED would be as painful as crapping broken glass. This is just for the design of it, it'll probably go into my design portfolio.

Q: Is Queeg customisable?
For the most part, no. I've not planned a modular system for expressions as of yet. I do have the tools (from past projects) to do so however. So, depending on how big and complex the design behind Queeg gets, it's possible. In so early indev stage, though, not probable.

Q: So how is this going to work?
Hopefully, if all goes to plan. I release a 'pass'. A collection of work that represents the project at it's current state. I gather feedback from that and two weeks later release another pass. I'm hoping to finalise around pass 3 or 4. Hopefully, by then, we have a lovely character and a smart idea presented well.

Q: What's the point here, chum?
Well, I love ED and I had an idea. I'd like to develop that idea w/ the ED community as far as I can without actual implimentation. Why ? Because I love ED you muppet. And I love design. And I can stuff it into my design portfolio. And hopefully it'll be a bit fun.

Q: Why is Queeg a female and not another sex?
Because, in the early stage so far, there's been no other interest. Besides, I like her like that. For the time being.

Q: So what's in it for me?
The chance to take part in some design etc. Also, after everything is done, I'd love (hopefully) to just put up all the assets (sprites, text files, research, sketches etc) up for download for free.

Q: How did this come about?
It was a combination of loving the ASTRA pack, interacting with my ship via voice, and the collection of reviews on steam about how ED doesnt guide newbies enough.

Q: Why Queeg? That name is lame.
Any boys from the Dwarf would get it.
