Project WEST is underway

Having played the PP beta I've concluded that it's not for me at this stage, and with my minor faction being ever harder to progress with the new update, it's time to clear the head and head out to the void.

Aboard my Asp Explorer, the IES Gopher, with a jump range of circa 31LY and the necessary exploration gear, we are now 600LY from my homeworld of HR 783 and heading 'due west' on the galactic map.

Project WEST; the Western Expedition and Search for Terrestrial worlds has begun.

The project has several aims;

1. to get away from civilisation to give me time and space to plot my next mission with my Python that is in storage
2. to scout unexplored systems for unusual galactic phenomenan and terrestrial life-bearing worlds
3. find some Thargoids and pledge allegiance to their faction
4. earn enough credits to set off a civil war in Tlapana so the Imperial Society can take control of the system
5. the credits earned will be used to build the Gopher into a battle-ready trade ship that will be my back-up for my main Python vessel

The Gopher is kitted out for long-range survival, with a B5 fuel scoop and 3 AFM modules to repair damage from my stupidity and to go deeper into space.

There is no time frame for my return; I'm hoping to find some interesting stuff to post here but will update this thread on my progress every once in a while.

Fly safe commanders and enjoy PowerPlay if its your cup of tea.

EDIT: Table of exciting stuff found so far

Water Giant - 1
Earth-Like World - 1
Gas Giant Water Life - 15
Gas Giant Ammonia Life - 7
Ammonia World - 2
Neutron Star - nil
Black Hole - nil
Candidate for Terraforming - 24
Water World - 16
Metal Rich Planet - 5

Enjoy yourself out there. Personally I always use an A grade fuel scoop, but thats just me. I have 2 AFM modules, and havent used them yet after 60Kylies. I am heading East, back from a south route from SagA so we may meet.

I normally go A class as well, but the hi-tech system I used only had B class as best, still only takes 49 secs to fill the Asp tank so thats good enough for me. As for the AFM, I'm of the opinion that more is better, who knows when Thargoid-related repairs would be needed!

Let me know as you get closer to occupied space and we can see about sorting out a rendezvous

Some pics of my early stage journey, not sure how far out just now but it's been plain sailing so far.

The pairs of stars look like beady eyes, thankfully they haven't started chasing or talking to me yet!

Update as at 11th June 3301.

Circa 1,400LY away from my starting point (good thing about having a parked ship on the map as a reference point!).

Table updated for main finds, still searching for that elusive Earth-Like World but the journey is but young.

We are headed more south-west just now, as usual I got distracted and am currently exploring the Cepheus Dark Region and might hang about for a couple more days before heading west towards the Pelican and Cave nebulae.

Few more pics, the captions are in the file names.

Fly safe as always, Gopher out!

600Ly? Turn back now! You'll want more jump range! Oh, that was 6 days ago... Oh well, too late now.

*coming from fellow 31 Ly explorer now on the other side of the galaxy.

Z...

I like it how all those enterprises and expeditions pop up one after the other.

Carry on Commander, do post some findings and as always, fly safe!

Just for my curiosity, where is WEST in space? ;)

Spinward I guess, or you might call it 'left' on the Galaxy Map

Been a while since my last update, no Thargoid-related delays or anything, just busy with the girlfriend and other stuff loosely related to real life!

So where is the Gopher now? Exploring random Plaa Eurk systems having spent a bit of time in the Cepheus Dark Region and concluding there wasn't much to be interested about!

Now heading towards the Veil Nebula East, and galactic map shows me 1,995LY away from where my Python is parked. I was 2,040LY away a couple of days ago but the route to the nebula seems to be taking me back a bit closer, but all in a good cause!

Table updated as always, still looking for that elusive Earth-Like having visited around 200 systems so far so I'm hoping to find one soon.

A few good pics I hope you will all enjoy;

Although you or we as explorers are unlikely to ever encounter anything at the moment, it is the potential that there might be something out there, that drives us on.

This kind of thing is cool as it simply is some peoples preferred play style. Once I get back, I may end up heading out if PP turns out not to be any good. As a game, there is options for us, and the exploration one you have chosen is probably the best for a lot of people.

Good luck and safe travels CMDR.
