Ship Builds & Load Outs projectile weapons

It seems to me that projectile weapons all have really slow firing rates, so that I can't hit anything with them unless I am in a small, fast ship that can gain positional advantage and stick close to the target. Multicannon are the exception, they spin up fast enough and I can use them effectively.

Am I missing a trick?
 
I think you are correct in your assumption that the projectile weps are best suited to small combat ships. Its been quite sometime since I rocked anything other than HS missiles and multi cannons on any of my builds.
 
What projectile weapons are you using? Are you using fixed or gimballed?

I prefer fixed cannons (and plasma) to gimballed cannons. Even on bigger ships like the Anaconda, Python, Corvette, Dropship, and Gunship, aiming is just a matter of practice.

Frag cannons are a bit different, I run those fixed only on ships agile enough to consistently get in close, which tend to be small ships.

Multicannons I just generally don't run fixed at all. Multi's need consistent time-on-target to be worthwhile, and gimbals just do that better for me. Cannons/plasma/frag I can line up a shot squeeze the trigger, and have a short reload period to line up another - they just work better as burst weapons, and so are easier to use as fixed.

(Although I have had fun in all-fixed-multicannon Vipers and Eagles, they are not ideal for me, but they are good for learning good combat habits)
