Proof That Docking In Elite Dangerous Is Easier Than Other Games

Well I just watched this and OMG does it prove that E: Dfinitely easier. ;)

He even mentions that E: D has influenced him heh... oh and Kerbal Space Program! :p

I have to admit kerbal space program docking is much much harder and takes much much longer.

I made this and each docking took progressively longer due to frame rates. We are talking a good 4 weeks getting all this up there and docked.

Well Kerbal Space Program is set around 1300 years before ED, so obviously docking will be a lot more hazardous and an acquired art :p

Landing on a carrier at night in Jane's F/A-18 was... interesting.

As game sim landings go the hardest thing I've had to do is fast mover carrier landings and setting down a FRS1 (Harrier) on the HMS Ark Royal. It also took a while to get my head arround fast chopper touch and go landings into hot LZs.

I just let the autopilot do those landings :)

My weakness is flight sims is "mid-air refuelling". I could never get that pokey thingy into the basket :(

The thing that frustrates me more than anything is the back seat driving of the throttle in Elite Dangerous... In games like Kerbal or Flight Simulator or Freespace the throttle gives you a fixed amount of thrust which is linked to the throttle position. ED on the other hand automatically slows you down to what it thinks is helpful. Unfortunately sometimes it decides to speed you up when you don't want it as well lol... so you give a tiny bit more throttle and you speed up a bit... THEN A LOT which can mean you hitting the back wall of the space station and nearly destroying yourself (yeah, happened to me when I had a pad right at the back of the station).

Another thing that confuses me is combat... If you slow down your turning circle should shrink... but when you slow down it seems to slow down your turn rate too. Also I had a great idea that I have used in flight sim combat... hit the brakes or do a Harrier reverse thrust and slow the ship down and the enemy flies past. I timed it from going full thrust to 0 and then seeing how long it takes to reach full stop. I then went full thrust to full reverse to slow me down faster AND IT TOOK LONGER TO REACH FULL STOP. There seems to be certain factors in ED's flight profile that make no sense.

The only way I find to turn faster is to turn off flight assist. Perhaps it should be called flight damper instead lol. I know this is probably deliberate but even putting cold jet thrusters on the nose of a current gen spaceship would let you turn faster. Anyone remember I-WAR? The combat in that was exceptional. Hmmm.... I wonder if I still have it...

I like ED but I just wish the throttle was a little more user controlled and linear and the turning circle thing was a little more predictable. Other than that I find things like docking and hiding behind rocks from nasty Anacondas is simple. :D
