Proper insurance.

It occurs to me that a proper system of insurance shouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility, even to allowing players to offer it as a business/service. Policies need to be bought up front and premiums are based upon type (TPFT/Fully Comp etc), nature of intended business and No Claims (per month maybe). Tie that into Ironman mode (a separated MP environment/arena) where ejecting is manual.

Thoughts?

I agree, but my thoughts are more on the 'real world' examples of insurance. Like:

- You have to pay IN ADVANCE for it.
- The more safety items you add to your vehicle, the cheaper your insurance is.
- The faster your vehicle is, the higher your premium.
- The insurance scales with the value of your craft. (Already in game)
- The extra items are insured separately (Already in game).
- Your rates go down the longer you are safe
- You get a 'group discount' on vehicles. :)
- You get long term insurance rewards.

In my opinion, Insurance should be optional, and you have to 'pay before' or 'pay as you go'...

The only reason I say this, is because if you know you have cash in the bank, and that you are in a situation that you are frustrated with, you can just 'Boost into it' and crash.. (Risk Aggressive)

As the point of the game is supposed to make you go: "Oh my god... I can't afford to do that, run away run away run away" (Risk Averse).

Otherwise, Griefers are gonna run rampant with expendable sidewinders they'll just crash into anyone they see who put 1mil into their shiny new ship. The New Ship owner gets to pay 300k, and the Sidey owner laughs as they kick the 'Free Sidewinder' button.

Just an opinion...

I personally like the current implementation of insurance with only an excess fee very much.
It is simple and easy to understand.

Apart from the fact any RL insurance company would go bankrupt on the first day of business with ED's model.

i think the ana was weak in beta build, certainly they get splattered on a T9 !!

One would hope an Anaconda's shields would be able to ward off any number of Sidewinders crashing into it (at normal speeds). Even matched ships should be unable to do much damage by ramming, given the low speeds achievable (shields up of course).

The insurance is paid by the pilots federation, not the pilot ;)

Oh. So the pilot's federation pays the premium up front and the pilot pays back that premium to the federation only upon loss of his ship? Weird. But very nice for the pilot.

I was referring to a 1 million Lakon 6.

An asp @ 6 mil and Cutter @ 22million can both be killed by being rammed by a NPC sidewinder. (Dunno if it's a bug, but it's true).

Anaconda is 100mil+. I hope to god it can't be killed by a Sidewinder ram (Unless it was heavily damaged).

The only time(s) I've died in the past 6 weeks was in a Cutter, and being rammed by a NPC Sidewinder in a Conflict Zone. WHILE I WAS AT 100% Class 6 Shield and 100% Hull.. *BOOM*, Insta death...

One time would've been a fluke, but on the third time at 3mil a pop in insurance, I decided to rest until Gamma. :)

The funny thing is...

Rail Gun reloads cost as much as 10k.
Missiles reloads as much as 20k.

When you think of a single sidewinder can kill a 22Million Upgraded Cutter in one hit... At about 6k to 10k in insurance buy back (if upgraded, free if not), you'll quickly find that a Kamikaze Sidewinder is the cheapest weapon in the game.

And those with the current in-game insurance pay the price...
