After watching the latest episode of The Skeleton Crew where they discussed the dilophosaurus, I was inspired by the concept art that Dalton brought up where there was a potential scene in the first Jurassic Park where the kids would defend themselves from a velociraptor with a squirting umbrella that looks like a JP dilophosaurus with its frills open.
It got me thinking how dangerous this animal really is. In the novel, it was an animal that even the Tyrannosaurus rex was wary of due to its venom. In JWE2, it looks different from any other small carnivore, but it functions more or less the same, and I feel like there is room to consider integrating the spit mechanic in JWE2.
One such direction I think would be fun is actually taking into consideration how far a dilophosaurus could spit its venom. I want to propose that we could have a range that is exclusive to the dilophosaurus where they could target dinosaurs or guests that are close to their enclosure.
Dilophosaurus is one of the earliest dinosaurs you could acquire for your park, which makes it an easy means to acquire high appeal early on. Outside from the fact that it is a small carnivore that could climb fencing, I think we could introduce a catch for acquiring such an animal early on, in which it has the exclusive ability to target and spit at guests and dinosaurs that are close to their enclosure.
When checking the environmental needs of the dilophosaurus, a green blob would appear around the territory, similar to dinosaurs with the intelligent trait. If guests or dinosaurs are within that range, the dilophosaurus would target that guest or dinosaur and attempt to spit venom at it.
If a guest were spat at by a dilphosaurus, your park security rating would drop. It is important to make sure that you do not have paths that would be within the range of the dilophosaurus's venom.
If a dinosaur is within range and was spat at by a dilophosaurus, its health would slowly decay for a bit. Depending on the size and strength of the targeted dinosaur, there is a chance in which it would collapse, similar to being tranquilized. To cure the dinosaur of its current state, an MVU team or ACU team would head to the vulnerable animal and shoot it with awakening darts, in which the animal would be active again and the health degradation would stop.
Dinosaurs that have either skittish or intelligent traits would panic and run away if they were within the range of the Dilophosaurus's spit. Skittish dinosaurs would be too scared and intelligent dinosaurs would know better than to be spat at by a dilophosaurus.
The best way to make sure your dilophosaurs are not a threat to your guest and dinosaurs is to simply provide some distance between them and their enclosure, and make sure to use attractions that would lower the risk of being detected by a dilophosaurus. Buildings, thick trees, and decorations would also help as they would block the aim of the dilophosaurus, as well as level 5 fencing that would practically block venom from successfully leaving the enclosure.
---------------
This I think would be fun, it would be a nice nod to the JP dilophosaurus and how dangerous they are, as well ask being a surprise for players who are not familiar with the JP dilophosaurus reputation to spit at their targets. It feels like a more dangerous version of Camels and LLamas spitting at guests in Planet Zoo, but one I think could fit in Jurassic World Evolution 2.
Do let me know what you think, would this work with dilophosaurs in JWE2? Let me know and thanks for reading!
