Proposal: Faction System and Monetization Based on Personalization and Upgrades

Non-Invasive Monetization

The idea is to implement premium options that offer visual customization and enhanced immersion, ensuring these additions are purely cosmetic and do not interfere with gameplay balance or competitiveness.

Cosmetic Items for Bases

  1. Station Models
    • Players can acquire new station models for their faction's home system.
    • Example: replacing a standard station like the Coriolis with an advanced model like the Orbis.
    • Available styles: futuristic, industrial, minimalist, and more.
  2. Interior Skins
    • Allow customization of station interiors with various themes, such as high-tech, natural environments, or retro aesthetics.
  3. Custom Banners and Logos
    • Cosmetic items that enhance faction identity with exclusive banners, holograms, and logos.

Economic Upgrade Packs

  1. Economy Change
    • Offer packs that allow players to change the type of economy in their faction's home system.
    • Example: transforming a mining-based economy into a commercial or tourism hub.
  2. Exclusive NPC Styles
    • Sell unique uniforms or outfits for NPCs affiliated with the faction, creating a distinctive and thematic look.

Faction Ship Customization

  1. Unique Paint Jobs and Decals
    • Offer exclusive cosmetic items for faction-affiliated ships, allowing players to visually customize their fleet according to the faction's theme.
  2. Collaborative Station Renovations
    • After purchasing a new station model, faction members must collect in-game materials to rebuild or renovate the station, fostering teamwork and collaboration.

Community Benefits

  1. Enhanced Immersion
    • The system provides players with a stronger sense of belonging and personalized storytelling, enriching their in-game experience.
  2. Ethical Monetization
    • All purchases are optional and focus on personalization or aesthetics, without directly impacting gameplay balance, ensuring a fair and accessible environment for all players.

None of that makes sense, because nobody owns factions.

FCs, sure. NPC- owned assets? Nope.

We do not own FC, but rent it from Brewer
For all lore intents, sure. For all game intents, they're player assets. We decide what services are available, what's in stock, where it goes.

Nobody does that for a faction, because it's an NPC asset for all game intents. We don't decide anything about them.

For all lore intents, the only faction we're part of is the Pilots Federation.

OP I like the ethics but I think the target is wrong.
As has been said players don’t own faction assets, now it isn’t out and we almost certainly won’t own stuff but Colonisation is likely to give us a strong connection to our creations so that might be a better target in the future.
