[PROPOSAL] Finding special containers with pre-engineered modules

What I would like is being able to find special containers with parts of pre-configured pre-engineered weapons and utilities etc.
Sometimes the stats of these might be just a bit better than what we can engineer ourselves.

We would pick these crates up and if we want their content we can fly to a station to have the parts installed.
If we do not want them we might sell them at an engineer's base for a good price.

Like I said the stats on these would be fixed: These modules can not be re-engineered.
You would perhaps need a cargo hold to pick them up.

The containers might only contain the parts of a module that are necessary to get the pre-defined end result.
This way you might get around the fact that it would not be possible to find an entire size 8 power generator or size 8 engine in a container.
And the engineering result might be applied to any existing appropriate module of any size in any ship.
This would make the system more flexible.

We would need to be able to compare the found modification with the one we might already have engineered ourselves, so we can make an informed decision.

I don't think we need more powerful modules than what can be engineered, engineer modules are ridiculous overpowered as they are. If you can find an "engineered" module easily then you've made a mockery of everyone that actually went and did the task of engineering. Finding an 8A module for free? That's like 200M free credits.

Not free at all. Assuming such a find would be possible - you've invested a huge deal of time into finding it 20kLY (imagining here) from the bubble. And your ship needs to have the capability to bring it back and your jumps will take a hit from the exstra weight you're carrying.

Elite is all about investing your time for some kind of gain and I don't see how finding a module far in space is any different from the rest of the game.

So you're out 20k LY from the bubble and just stumble upon a superpowerful module?

Make it crashed ships with salvageable mid-level modules, perhaps make them ALL very low integrity as they're worn out, and I'm on board.

+1

I had a similar idea a while back. :)

Obviously needs super careful balancing so you can't easily salvage 8A power plants from every Anaconda wreck you find(or make), making 100s of millions a run. Lol

But the basic salvage idea is the same as mine. :)

You'd require an engineer to assemble these parts, who should also require some data and micro materials to finish them.

I also had an idea for "scrapping" modules to gain resources for other modules. It's all very complex though. Lol

And would be a total balancing nightmare.

Done right, It'd be a whole new viable Salvage Career.

No. You stumble upon a destroyed ship (in space or on a planet) and a module survived. Also, it needs not be superpowerful at all. It can just be a module, or have a level 1 mod or whatever really. And it could belong to an ASP, not an Anaconda...

I'd just like to be able something interesting and worth bringing back. As it is I wouldn't pick up Painite if I'm over 1kLs out, it is still dead weight, worth relatively nothing, slowing me down.
