One thing I always thought was cool from the JWE2 Announcement trailer was to be able to go up to the dinosaur in order to medicate them. It looked like the process will be done on the field instead of it being done in an isolated environment. So when the game came, it didn’t feel like that vision was reached. Most of the time when medical attention is needed, the dinosaur is darted with the medical dart, or tranquilized and be sent over to the medical center for deeper treatment. It is sound on paper, but does have the tedious aspect of moving the dinosaur around if any of them gets injured too often, and I wanted to see if there is a happy medium where we could have the dinosaur be medicated on the field and save time. As is, there is room for improvement, and this could be a feature that would help make the MVU vehicle stand out more by doing something else besides using medical darts.
As a disclaimer, this may be something in the works, but I want to share this idea if it helps inspire such a feature to be implemented.
MVU ON-FIELD DINOSAUR TREATMENT
I wanted to look and see what the MVU vehicle and medical center could do in terms of gameplay from both a player controlled perspective, and an autonomous one that could be done by the in game medical staff.
When treating dinosaurs of JWE2, we have 3 medical issues that has their methods of being resolved. The first is the standard disease that a dinosaur gets from the environment, and that would be resolved with a medical dart after a cure has been researched. The second is a minor injury like an ingrown claw or broken tooth that could be cured on the field, also with a dart shot from the MVU. The third is a major injury like fractured bones or internal bleeding, and those would require the ACU's assistance to tranquilize the dinosaur in order to be sent to the medical center.
I want to introduce a second option for the major injuries, one that could be done on the field and would require the MVU to execute the operation, an on-field dinosaur medical treatment.
Instead of having to tranquilize the dinosaur and transporting them all the way to the medical center, the MVU will call an ACU chopper to come over and tranquilize the injured dinosaur. They will wait until the dinosaur is tranquilized in order to begin the medical operation. Once the dinosaur has been tranquilized, the MVU will approach the animal in need and a window will pop up and ask the player to select the staff needed to begin the on-field operation. After the team has been selected, a medical spray machine will be deployed next to the tranquilized dinosaur, and the MVU has to be in range during the duration of the operation. Once the dinosaur has been properly treated, she will wake up immediately and resume to her daily dino duties.
Here are some pros as to why this could be a preferred option:
• It is quick: There is no need to transport the dinosaur to the medical center as the process is done in the field itself. This is especially useful if the medical process is to be applied to a dinosaur far away from the medical center.
• It could be done while a dinosaur is occupying the medical facility: If a dinosaur is in the medical facility, there won't be room for other treatments until the dinosaur in the facility has been taken care of. If multiple dinosaurs are in need of serious medical attention, but medical facilities are limited, this could be another option to handle dinosaurs in need of urgent medical care.
And the process is very straightforward. When the dinosaur is tranquilized, the medical spray machine will be deployed near the dinosaur. Once deployed, it will have a radius that would require both dinosaur and MVU vehicle in it in order for the medical treatment to proceed.
The MVU has to be in the radius in order for the spray machine to medicate the dinosaur properly. If the MVU is out of reach, the operation will be on pause for a duration until the MVU repositions itself. If the MVU is away from the medical machine for too long, the operation stops and has to be restarted.
As for the dinosaur, she has to be alive and tranquilized during this process. Unlike the Medical center, this is out in the open where other dinosaurs and the elements of nature could hinder the medical procedure, to which this leads to the cons of medicating on field:
• The MVU vehicle will not be available until the medical process is complete.
• The injured dinosaur would be open to predation.
• The MVU is open to weather effects like snow.
• The process itself is done a tad slower than on the medical field, but not by much in order to make up for the time spent transporting the dinosaur. A consequence of using a single medical spray machine.
Despite these cons, the MVU could still defend themselves from any dangers, by utilizing flares to distract agitated and concerned dinosaurs, or calling the aid of the ACU chopper if things get really difficult. The on-field process would be worth it for exhibits that are populated by peaceful dinosaurs, or with a single star attraction in a secured location.
-----------------------------
This is something I would like to see, to observe the MVU team do something on the field besides darting dinosaurs with medical darts. It is an idea I had when I was wondering how to solve the issue of having to move dinosaurs back and forth from their exhibits to the medical facility, and to also see the MVU be more active in my parks.
This is something I think could work but do let me know of your thoughts as there is always room for improvement.
Thanks for reading, take care!
