Proposal for smaller update sooner.

We need the link this thread to anyone who says Rep Decay isn't a thing

"Yeah but, What has FDev Added to the game for us TODAY"

No, I dont want FD to waste time to placate those with the patience of a hungry kitten.

I don't always agree with you but +1 for that.
To the OP absolutely not! Stop interrupting the devs and let them concentrate on pushing out a completed and tested 2.1 as soon as they can.

And I trust that you of course magically exclude reference to those who simply highlight the fact that no other update's taken this long and perhaps that doesn't have to be the case...

I know you aren't suggesting they might have finished the update and now all sitting around look at the forums taking bets as to how long they have to wait until it gets to critical mass but I don't understand what it is you are suggesting. Every eagerly awaited update nearly always gets threads like this. Sit back take a deep breath and a chill pill and go mining for a while. I find it very relaxing.

Some other companies have transitioned to more frequent, smaller updates because they find it easier to bug test and they can release features in a more natural time frame rather than delaying or rushing to fit an infrequent deadline. Apparently that is not the case for FD though.

Anyway all of that doesn't matter because the blatantly obvious reason is because Horizons is now sold on Steam as a season pass. That means dlc-sized updates are expected, so we have to wait until they have enough ready for release to justify the dlc expectation. This is a marketing rather than development led strategy.

I don't at all believe we can know that until a dev comes and weighs in directly, but I've been wrong before and invite you to share any sources proving that.

There are plenty of people here who are software devs or game devs elsewhere in the industry. We don't need to hear (from the horse's mouth) things that we already understand from frustrating firsthand experience ;)

This game is on a ten-year development track. Ten years! Getting impatient about there being weeks before a new content drop seems like a bad time instead of having fun with the game. If it's really frustrating, don't forget that (if you are anything like me) there are dozens of genuinely great games sitting in your Steam library that you haven't ever played yet, that you really do want to play. Pass some time by taking some of those out for a spin. It'll be great fun, and when you're done, Elite will be waiting for you, better than ever :)

We're about a month, month-and-a-half away from the deployment of a massive content drop and overhaul that has been in-development from before Horizons shipped.

Chipping off a section to punt out the door would cause way more headaches on devside than could ever justify the work that'd go in to splitting off that content in the first place.

Source: experience.
As a software dev i'm telling you, depending on how they manage and plan their source control, extrapolating any serious part from a big changing patch like it's supposed to be 2.1, could vary from a serious headache to hell on earth.
In both cases the chances that things don't work anymore as intended increase by 300%, and it'd be absolutely necessary deep testing and a dedicated beta.
In this matter there's no such a thing like "effect on development would be minimal to nonexistent".

To be clear, i'm talking about chopping 2.1, while changing plans for future updates, to have smaller, and more "agile" development (did't choise the term by case), it's a different matter, one i could certainly endorse.

I would rather they wait to provide the full 2.1 release. I suspect they're going to screw up by nerfing Robigo so I've been busy draining that cash cow. I've only been making runs for the last week so I've only earned about 250M. My goal is to earn 2B before the 2.1 release. I figure if they keep to the existing 2.1 schedule and I keep putting in about 2.5 hr/day, I'll just barely make it in time.

I have been operated on, the foot, so Im in cast for 6 weeks. I did 4 rounds of mining in my new Anaconda. 8 hr/day. Made a sweet 12 mil. My mining spot is a 118 ly out.
Lissen to the bbc radio 4. Found out about a band. Looked it up and lissen to it on spotify. Could update the fraimeshift engine. Look on the rest of the moduleprices. 350 m for a mirror protection?
But I like mining. Its so, so nice? Calqulating the right amount of limpets to carry. Feeling sad about the falling prices of gold. A bit anoyed that the only mining missions is for tycoons. Hey, I own a Conda? No? Have to be better than that? Sure I will sell on the market instead. The rich feeds the rich.

Sorry for all above, just a bit insomniac tiredness. The foot iche.

Hello! So In lieu of 2.1's delay, Frontier did say that some kind of holdover update would come to do just that.

I love these "Discuss" posts. Well nothing to discuss because they wont do it nor should they. They need to focus on what they are doing now. Worst thing about todays society is that there is no patience at all.

Discuss (lol)

Hello!

So In lieu of 2.1's delay, Frontier did say that some kind of holdover update would come to do just that. Far as I'm concerned, it hasn't yet. The last 2 updates have fixated on VR and repaired a handful of issues only one of which I'd ever even heard about. That being said, would you all like to see some small partition of 2.1 deploy early if FD could be convinced it was feasible? I don't think it should be immediately written off. Perhaps..whatever's most refined at present? It would of course be frontier's call entirely, but some possibilities include a few of the new weapons, the expanded mission system, or the revised AI. I just think that it's not outside the realm of possibility to have something sooner rather than later if its release's effect on development would be minimal to nonexistent.

Discuss.

You may want to go play something else for a few weeks, let FD finish their work on 2.1 and come back to Elite.

Just read your post. You have my sympathy and a little rep. Mining is peaceful isn't it. ............
Oh and unless you really need it stay away from mirror protection as impact weapons mess them up pretty quickly. best to stick with Mil Spec as the best all-round protection.
