[PROPOSAL] I would like different fuel types

In Frontier Elite we had normal and military fuel.

I would very much like to see different fuel types in Elite Dangerous too. Perhaps even more than two. Different types of fuel should have different advantages and disadvantages concerning for example:

- Fuel price (obviously)
- jump distances
- wear and tear of the engine
- waste products (military fuel produced toxic waste if I remember correctly)

This could also help to explain the weird discrepancies between fuel prices for different ships.
Bigger ships might require more expensive fuel types because... (insert fluff here).
Different engine types might require different fuel types.

I think a lot could be done with different fuel types. It could add a rich gaming mechanic.

Stop it. You'll make me go back to the DDA discussion of fuel and fuel quality, and then I'll be sad. :(
.
FWIW, Agree 100%.

I HATED getting fined for waste in Frontier by using military drives!!! So NO!!!

I know of course that FD is aware of the idea. It was in the predecessors after all, but I hope they will implement it in ED also, because I think the mechanism has great merits. I hope they have not 'forgotten' about it.

100% Agree as per the DDA

Maybe double the range of a drive, also you would need a military scoop, all expensive of course!

Also I think would also limit you to scooping A,B & O stars?

At least the idea is floating about there

We can scoop fuel from stars which implies its the same substance.

much better if bigger ship simply would use much more fuel to justify bigger cost eg. sidewinder 0,1t per 1LY , python 10t per 1LY or so ( you would need adjust fuel tank sizes of course to keep balance)

That is a weird argument for two reasons:
1. You simply have to dump your waste when no authority vessels are present. It adds a bit of tension and excitement I would think.
2. And if you do not want to take the risk of getting fined, you can simply refrain from using military fuel. The point is that there are choices to be made, which is what a game like ED is about.

Everybody hates getting fined, but that does not mean that all mechanism that could lead to fining should therefore be removed. The opposite is true. mechanism like this spice the game up. They are needed.

I read in the FD (if I remember correctly) that scooped fuel was supposed to be of lesser quality because it has not been factory processed.
The fuel is free, but should cause more wear and tear and be of lesser quality and effectiveness than fully processed fuels or greatly enhanced fuels like the military kind. This would mean a ship cannot produce its own military fuels by means of scooping.

What I said above applies here too. Scooped fuel is free, but is of lesser quality than processed and enhanced fuels.

I was thinking about hydrogen lines in stars, A being the Best 'quality'... I must concentrate on getting home for now though...

Just to add, making military fuels unscoopable would make it a pew pew only fuel, I think it's time for other careers to get some love - Mining/ Exploring

If they would add more than two types of fuel your idea would work perfectly. We could have different qualities of scooped fuels, but we could also have a few different types of processed fuels, like military fuel and normal fuel. It could become a rich system with several options.

For example: Using normal processed fuel would not preclude the use of scooped fuels and vice versa, but military fuel would require having a military type drive in your ship. Having such a high performance drive would make the use of scooped fuels not viable at all, or (another option) cause extra wear and tear to the engine.

I definitely agree that mining needs some serious loving and exploring too. But I am greedy. I want it all :).
