Okay, so I get that external views can be seen as ruining immersion of game and such, but if you fork out like AUD$20 on a skin, seeing it would be nice. And I mean more than just the beat up and scratched version in the hanger before repair.
Now, ruining immersion.... I'm assuming that a Space Station, even an outpost is covered in camera's and sensors. So why not, if Auto Docking Computer is in use have the station send you feeds from sensors and camera's of your ship auto docking. Would look fantastic I think, especially in the big stations.
Doing this, you could see your ship from outside, see the skins that you paid for and not interfere with immersion. So you get what you want and game lore remains intact.
