Currently the game is proceeding down a path that skews player support in favour of the Empire to the exclusion of the others. This is perfectly fine for any single player game, but a fundamental flaw in any online game that would have players chose opposing sides.
You seem oblivious to the fact that the majority of online players fit the FOTM mould, gravitating in droves towards the best builds, equipment and rewards, and the reason that balance has to be an overriding consideration in any multiplayer mmo.
As it stands the Empire have far and away the most attractive factions ships, the Alliance and Independents have none, and the Federation a useless garbage scow. Now to add insult to injury you follow suit with power play.
In power play you have created more empire aligned powers than the other factions, creating wider choice in favour of the Empire players and the various available play styles. Then follow that up with equipment rewards, none of which are balanced against one another, and low and behold some of the most attractive items are in the hands of the Empire aligned powers, while one of the two Federation rewards is a useless frag cannon no one will ever use. Where is the thought and design behind these rewards, where is the balance?
If you want your player base to favour the Empire then you are doing a stellar job. The empire is already seeing more players involved in power play than the other factions. Continue on your present course and eventually the Empire will comprise the bulk of the player base with no real opposition to base your in game events around.
