Problem: People like different stuff, such as lower or higher difficulty, the 'right' to CL etc.
Solution: Allow people to do what they want
Problem: People who make it easy for themselves disproportionally affect the galaxy
Solution: Add a Super Solo (and Super Group, if wanted) mode.

How does it work:
-Super Solo accounts are seperate from normal open/solo/group accounts, so you cant switch to Open.
-In Super Solo mode you dont influence the BGS, your BGS is identical to the regular one.
-In Super, you get to pick difficulty level, or even use cheats.

There you go. Space Truckers can have relatively easy fun in Super Mobius, and if anyone wants they can pull the plug at the first sighting of a NPC pirate.

Honestly i'm not sure how well that would go over.
So i assume if you wanted to go "super mode", then it would be a one way switch, and you could never go back? I think that part might be a tough sell. As much as people might like it, cutting off any possibility to go back, barring a clear-save, could be daunting.

Maybe if they implemented a multiple commander option? I still think they could make a good chunk of change selling additional cmdr slots in the store.
...but that's another topic. ;)

Sorry, I do not give my vote on this, unless:

The powerplay is only OPEN PLAY.

The "pvp" be paid extra.
Trade is paid extra OPEN PLAY.
Missions rewards paid extras OPEN PLAY.
Mining and extra prospector .... in OPEN PLAY

If you manage this happens to you I give 1000 votes in your idea, big SOLO MODE and a big OPEN PLAY.

I would like multiplayer games are those that seem really challenging.

I like the MMO and the ability to play with others, I do not like to play alone.

I like the interaction between the players and make decisions together.

I bought this game for having the ability to MMO and am somewhat satisfied, I do not trust much in p2p for that, but it is what it is.

For now my main enemy is Mobius, I just play in Open Play

Weird nomenclature.
In my world "super" means higher level, but this is like dumbing down the modes. Maybe you meant Sub Solo?

Just give me a difficulty slider.
If I set it to 50%, I get easier NPC's but half the payout, half the rep increase/decrease and I have to do twice as much work to affect the BGS.
The only thing that ignores the slider is PvP. I don't see why it needs to be more complicated than this.

and with that they can close all the other modes and be done with it :)

Though I have no figures I would imagine that more people play in Solo than Mobius.

OP -

Isn't Solo already the easy mode according to many who play in OPEN. If it's just AI difficulty that is the problem I am sure that FD will balance it out. Though there may be a change of play style needed eg Think twice about Anarchy systems or waltzing around a HAZ Res site.

Besides I don't think the modes are going to change..ever. Which is fine by me.

The problem with Fdev balancing npc difficulty is that it will always be complain. NPC is too hard or too easy. Always a lot of unhappy players. There is no middle ground on that and they can't make it perfect for all. Just let players choose what Ai they want to face. The current Ai is too easy for some and too hard for some players. Everyone would have better experience and have more fun with the game if they could choose difficulty by themselves instead forum threads or frontier staff deciding what is good AI for them.

A better name for Super Solo mode would be called.. Offline.
