Horizons Pros and Cons of Fighter Hanger?.

Initially I was so bad at combat that I just got real good at "boost, boost, jump, boost" and concentrated on trading/exploration. As my rankings grew in those two I became a bit ashamed that I was such a coward and decided to make amends. By now I had enough credits that I could afford a few rebuys in my combat learning curve. I eventually got the idea and now at 93% Competent in combat and able to handle most situations I am thinking of adding a fighter hangar to my Anaconda. For those of you who have already done this, how does this affect future rankings?. Will this slow down my personal rankings and raise the ranking of my fighter pilot or what?.

It raises both your and your NPC's rankings equally (I believe they're equal - they both go up at the same time anyway).

The fighters are also great to fly yourself, although I'd recommend getting your NPC up to a decent rank before you leave them in charge of the main ship -- I launched in the fighter against a Cobra III, with the NPC in the ship (Keelback) and somehow they'd managed to lose the shields and 20% of the hull before I'd even lined up on the target... managed to kill the cobra myself and then limp away for repairs, but it was close...

Pros : You have a slave who becomes(eventually) decent against NPC
Cons : Mine made over 100M Cr from me before I sacked her :D
(I decided to do other stuff, guardians mission over and over, so didn't want to share credits)

You can use a fighter bay without a crew assigned. I got into my fighter once thinking I had my crew active at the time, didn't realize it immediately, just clicked the option to launch fighter and boom, there I am, sitting in my fighter going . So switched back to the mother ship and checked to see why my crew didn't get in the fighter, I guess I didn't activate her. Anyway, my fighter was still flying around the ship, so tried to send it a command to attack, but only options available was follow or hold position, couldn't select any other option. So I figured it is possible to have a fighter bay without hiring a crew to man it, the fighter can then be launched as a decoy and take fire away from the mother ship, at least, for as long as it survives anyhow, wouldn't suggest you being in the fighter in this scenario cause then your mother ship becomes the target and all it can do is follow you or hold position.

But I don't mind paying the crew, I am a billionaire several times over so ain't hurting for cash, and my crew is Dangerous now and not too far from Elite, I started her from the bottom and she has made over 75 mil from me. I don't mind her getting a cut even when most of the time she is sitting in a station on vacation while I am using a ship that can't launch fighters. She really got a big payday when I took my DBX to Sag A. I jumped 866 times on that trip and got 8100 first discoveries in 700 different systems. When I sold all the data, made 279 mil, of course, the crew took her 9% of that and she was sitting in the station during that 5 week trip. Oh well, if she wasn't so cute I'd sack her too.
