Prospectors still broken.

So we're here with ver 1.5 now.... I've been mining for the past few months, off and on a few hours after work. 80 million credits so far. I've made several adjustments to my ship during that time, trying to eliminate bottlenecks in the process and get the most efficient configuration possible geared towards long excursions.

Type 9 Miner:
5A & 3A Collector (5 limpets total)
3x2D Mining lasers
3A Refinery
1A Prospector
No shields, max cargo: 480

It's always been exciting to see that "Upgrade" button... I've noticed all kinds of cool little changes with each update that have slowly made mining a more lucrative pastime. Early on I tried various sizes of prospector limpet controllers, but quickly decided I didn't like bothering with more than one at a time. The reason for that is because the darn things have no rhyme or reason for the order of their destruction. It seems so obvious that the oldest prospector limpet should explode when you launch a new one, BUT THEY DON'T! I've tried a larger limpet controller with each update to see if FD has fixed them, and each time I've been frustrated to find out they are still . Anyone doing serious mining like myself can benefit from using prospector limpets. They do help speed up the process, but the fact that I can't count on a consistent oldest launched limpet dies first scenario, after all these updates makes me wonder what the problem is?

I don't want to create a post just to complain... it's a brilliant game and I'm happy to see it finally being made. I'm not sure how many other looney people like myself have spent so much time mining in ED but I have some suggestions that I hope someone might agree with:

-Prospector limpets should be faster in flight. 75% to 300% faster.
-Returning collector limpets go too far down before entering the cargo hatch. (perhaps unique to a type 9?)
-As of 1.5, the reduction of mineral content per-asteroid was a mistake. There is no good reason not to keep them at the previous average, or even a little more...
-And lastly... Prospectors: Oldest one dies first!

Full agreement on all points. The prospector limpets really are painfully slow, and as for the wrong one being killed off, well that's just a double facepalm situation.

I personally dont think its worth firing off more than one prospector at a time as for me it gets too confusing. Im quite impressed with mining under horizons now that i dont have to micro manage the hopper. Did some last night in annie and found it all a very pleasing experience... Except when i found a lovely 50% painite and got kicked out with a transaction error!

Agreed here.

Collectors always take a big detour to your cargo hatch. But with the T-9 it seems even further.
Didn't even know they lowered mineral content in 1.5. Anyone has any idea why they did that? It's not like mining needed a nerf.

I mined with a T-9 but went back to the Python (I can't afford an Anaconda yet). The T-9 is awesome when it comes to cargo capacity but it's just too slow lumbering from rock to rock.

Solution: Cutter!

Just observed...
Now that you mention it...
On my last mining trip last week I did see the amount of high value ores was really low. I normally can replace every limpet I spend with around 1.5T to 2T of ores when I just mine Painite, Platinum, Palladium and some Osmium and Gold. But this time ended up with less ores than prospectors spent. That means about a 2x reduction in high value ores in my usual mining spot.

But this wasn't in 1.5 or 2.0 but in the main game, still 1.4 at that time. And the amount of ore per rock was the same but just found way more low value stuff.

RIGHT ON! That's all I go for as well.
Yeah, they just dropped the overall amount of ore per-asteroid by at least 30%. I can't be sure how much, but they empty much faster now and I doubt it's due to an improvement in the mining lasers.

Mining in T9 for weeks and i haven t any problems...
I like Mining laser range, rafinery screen and management...
I move quickly between roids with 4 pips in engine ans dont have any problems with collectors...
Taking 320 limpet for 448 cargo space.
I ll must jet 50 limpet in order to gain some space for ore.
My cargo is full of platinium, paladium painite and gold....
My 5 mining laser empty astéroïdes like 1.4 - 30% by capacitor charge...

How many collector limpets are you using?

Probably because, like every other trade, people come on here saying 'I can make 10-15M/hr in my mining/battle/trade conda'

You said that the oldest prospector dies first, doesnt that mean that the problem is solved now? Previously the problem using multiple prospectors was that it didnt recycle the limpets. Meaning that it only replaced the last one deployed.

OP's saying the oldest collector should be the one to die first. At the moment it's the newest collector that's destroyed when you launch a new one.

While I agree to most of the above I'd like to add some points of evaluation to this thread:

I love that they changed the power cost of constantly firing 2 class2 mining lasers to fit 4 pips in weapons. It evens out exactly. Good Job!
It would be great if one could "upgrade" sensors to display what asteroids have been mined on the radar. Or maybe just make it an option in the settings.
It would be great if one could "target" asteroids and the prospector limpets would automatically attach to it. Some times my limpets fly straight through the asteroids!
It would be great if one could jettison cargo and tag it with "abandon" mode so that active limpets would not gather it back in. It gets jettisoned for a reason.... honestly!
It would be great if one could set a beacon/waypoint within asteroid fields so that I could return to a specific point. Maybe attached to a specific rock in the ring? I often want to go back to a specific point, but it's hard to find.
It would be great if prospector limpets could detach from rocks and fly to new rocks? Maybe as a feature of A rated prospector limpet controllers?

Excellent ideas! (Mostly;))
