Proto radiolic alloys

I need to lightweight some modules so did the usual and looked for high tech and industrial systems with a large a population in boom state.

Three hours and many systems later I've only managed to find one high grade emission USS which was a fluke when jumping towards my next system three jump away(which were Proto heat radiators)

Have the high grade emissions USS been nerfed and is there a new method to obtain high grade materials?

Last I checked Khepri was a high-population independent system with the controlling faction(s) in boom state. That's what you need at least. Imperial systems spawn Imperial shielding, Alliance systems spawn Military grade composites, and Federation systems spawn Core Dynamics Composites.

Fly out to deep space and cruise around at low speed (but not zero throttle 30km/s). Ignore all USSes except high-grade and play with your throttle if you don't seem to be spawning any USSes at all. I don't know what triggers them spawning but the game seems to know if you're afk or not.

I'd suggest pinning the blueprint(s) you want to apply to your modules. It seems to make the mats you want pop u a little more often than normal.

Z...

I've experienced the same. They were never that common (and shouldn't be), but I've been hard-pressed to get any proto radiolic today.

What eventually did the trick for me was go to a single star system (binary systems tend to list you as being within the range of the binary, not deep space). But even then, took me hours to get, in total 5 High USS, of which 2 had radiolics.

I have 100 of these damn things. Always trade them for military super caps and whatnot. Can't even carry more.

HGEs spawn frequently around 5k ls of stars and for some reason at CGs.

My Proto radiolic alloys was already pinned. My last stop was Alioth.

Alioth:
Controlling faction is in boom state
High tech
14.9 billion population

Was in deep space over an hour in this system. No high grade emissions.

Don't really want to be forced to murder NPCs to upgrade modules.

I started looking for PRAs on Saturday morning, and it took me half an hour to get my first high-grade emmisions, but then I had another 6 within the next hour to net me the 20+ I needed for a jump-a-conda project.

The entire USS mechanic is abysmal game design and quite possibly the worst gameplay FDev have ever released. Whoever's idea it was should have been fired and not allowed to ever work as a game designer ever again; It makes even freemium paywall grinds look reasonable.

RNG to see if a USS spawns at all.
RNG to see if it's a high grade emissions
RNG to see whether it contains G5 or G4 materials
RNG to see if it spawns the G5 material you're looking for.
RNG to see if it spawns more than the minimum (1x G5 and 2x G4)
RNG to see how many rolls you need for your mod.

When you think about how many layers of chance you have to go through to get to a completed G5 roll from the "new unidentified signal source" popup that spawns every 30s-10mins randomly, you might as well just kill yourself :\

Ya it's bad. I try to imagine the devs cooking that up with a straight face. I just imagine them rolling with laughter in the break room as they pretend to be disgruntled gamers for each others amusement. It's like the people who actually have to play through it are the butt of their jokes.

One of the best things about basing myself in LHS 20 is that you can't fall out of bed without landing on a pile of potato radios. [up]

*EDIT*
On the topic of RNG, the whole "layered RNG" thing is something that's always bugged me.
It's kind of like going to work, completing the tasks you've been given and then having your boss saying "Okay, now let's roll a couple of dice to see how much you're going to get paid this week".

Is the “deep space” thing still true? I seem to have much better luck in Shipping Lanes since the changes, almost as though they now spawn in Shipping Lanes at the expense of Deep Space.

That's a good point. Economy might play a role.

Oh, it does.

"Capital" Systems, such as Sol and Achenar, are usually a safe bet 'cos they're usually stable and in Boom, although if they're affiliated with a superpower you'll also get things like CD Composites and Imperial Shielding instead of potato radios sometimes.

I also look for PRAs in a nearby Imperial system that's also High Tech with a 3 billion pop. Yesterday before Dr. Kaii's event I spent about an hour or so looking for some. Found no Imperial Shielding, a few PRAs and mostly Encoded USSes. It felt like they changed it so population no longer matters. I used to get 3-4 USSes spawning at a time here. Now it seems to spawn them like a low pop system.

I plan to try again today in NGC 7822 at Gorgon Research since it's in Boom state. I'm curious to see if I have better success, or about the same.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they changed it, or if it's a byproduct of them revamping the system. Something similar happened with planetary resources.

I don't know why we can't just buy the ruddy things, spending weeks hunting down the right USS in the right system seems a bit silly when they're plentiful in New ships...which are available at the click of the fingers when you bust your old one!

You can in a way with the material trader. PRAs are very expensive though because it's a very rare material. One thing you can do is find another very rare to farm more easily, then exchange it for them. It's hardly ideal, but it is an alternative if you find a good spot to make it viable.

I did this with Atypical Encryption Archives and Adaptive Encryptors Capture.

Fundamentally, they don't want us upgrading our ships in a deliberate, structured, goal-oriented, manner.
They think we're just going to stumbly blindly along, picking up random tat, and then see if we can use it to create some kind of upgrade.

Just set aside 100,000 years of human nature and you'll find the whole process far less irritating. [where is it]
