What if we could let the engineers build prototype ships? Designed by the community or Frontier themselves.
- Prototype ships:
These are unreleased ships that were to inefficient or costed too much to mass produce.
These are ships that have advanced technologies but lack in some other departments.
They could be alien ships modified for humans or military ship plans that were lost.
They can also be ships from a company that went bankrupt and had to destroy most of their plans.
- Engineers:
First of how would the engineers build them.
Well you will need some essentials parts before you can even start collecting all the materials.
You will have to go out and find blueprints or do missions. If you want to find them you will need to go out and scan terminals down on planets.
They have a very slim chance of getting these, according their rarity.
You will need multiple blueprints for all the parts that go into making one prototype ship.

*Note this involves a lot of exploring/grinding missions
The amount of total blueprints needed depends on the rarity of the ship and the size.
You will be able to get multiple blueprints from one terminal/mission.
- Building process:
So now that you have collected all the blueprints it will show a complete wireframe of the ship and you will be able to a certain engineer to build it for you.
Of course they don’t do this for free and will need to be paid.
And they will also need a good amount of materials, data and commodities.

When you have delivered all the components for all the parts you will be able to let the engineer build it for you if you have paid him the cost of manufacturing a ship.
The construction process will take time. Several hours or even days, depending on the size and rarity.
