PS VR?

If you mean on the PS4 itself, it's not been rules out. Frontier have stated that they won't add support until they can be sure performance is optimal. So it's not impossible, but it sounds like it will take time.

If you mean on the PC, I don't expect there to be any support at all.

There is a bit of 3rd party software that allows you to use the PSVR on pc, I've got it running on mine and works really well
Sure, I was just mentioning that Frontier won't 'officially' support it. I also believe it lacks positional tracking?

When using it with a PS4, it gets its positional tracking from the PS4 camera. I guess it might lose that when it's being bodged to work with PC, but I'm sure there'll be positional tracking if you're prepared to bodge it further.

As for official support on the PS4 game, we know that Frontier Developments are very very keen to bring VR to the PS4, and David Braben loves a technological challenge. If there are any announcements to be made, they are most likely to be made at the Frontier Expo.

Keep yer fingers crossed.

Apologies for the bump but I just wanted to see if any of the developers had any update on PSVR support. I'm very keen to play this on PS4 but really, really want to be playing in VR.
Hoping for good news :)

I am not sure there will ever be a PSVR version. My understanding is that the regular PS4 does not have the power necessary to support a game like elite, and Sony won't allow anyone to release a PSVR game that only runs on PS4 Pro (which Elite would essentially need to be)

But to To be perfectly honest, I don't think you will like this game using the PSVR headset. I used the third party PC driver to see how Elite as a game 'looked' in VR -- it's awesome! but the thing with elite is that there is a lot of text on the screen, and the game is very text heavy. I found that the lower resolution of the PSVR headset made it very hard to read text clearly.

On the back of this test I ended up getting a Pimax headset and they sent the BE 2k edition, which is double the resolution of the PSVR and the text is crystal clear.

It was stated fairly recently that ED VR on PS4 hasn't happened yet because it's not good enough right now. They have not completely ruled it out, but I imagine if it DOES come, it will only be on PS4 Pro, and likely quite graphically limited.

Also, with the newer Xbox machines getting their AR (which is just VR with internal positioning) HMD's next year.. it's possible that a VR version of ED for console might be simultaneously developed for those headsets alongside the PSVR one. After all, consoles are usually treated as a completely different ecosystem than PC.

Problem is Kaltern, as per Sony's current rules, ALL PSVR titles must be developed to support both PS4 models, they won't allow Frontier to release a game that is only capable of working properly on the PS4 Pro.

But as I mentioned, I think the resolution of the PSVR headset does not lend itself to the smaller text you get with Elite, messages on the HUD, text within stations. There is lot going on there, and you're dealing with a resolution of 960 x 1080 per eye, which is not that great for that kind of detail.

That aside, the game itself is amazing in VR with the headset, I tried it using the PC with Trinus but the text rendering really was a problem for me. YMMV.

I would wet myself and glady pay for an upgrade to have ED on my PSVR unit. Performance shouldnt be too bad of an issue, surely? Its not as if there are a lot of graphical elements going on - RE7 pulled it off tremendously (one scary game btw - especially in vr) - Im happy for downgraded graphics if it means added immersion. Please FD - give us ED on the PSVR. Pretty please :)

Elite is a beast to run in VR. Even high end PCs can struggle to maintain good enough frame rates around stations and planet surfaces.
