PS4 Boost Button on Landing!! AAAAaaarrrrgh!

Hello Universe. First post and if you see a Cobra Mk III bouncing off the letterbox entrance to the station, Give him a wave cos that's me lol.

So...

I have PC based friends who make it look easy, and two weeks into the game, I'm still tapping the circle button to deploy landing gear instead of holding. Problem is, if you tap and not hold, I'm boosted into the back of the station [noob] with critical damage only to incur another rebuy!
Normally I would be aware of this but having this happen to me now at least 4 times, makes me wonder why cant PS let me relocate the landing gear button away from that bloody boost. p.s. My PC chums find this highly amusing!.

Glad Ive met the community, Onwards and upwards, everyday a school day!

Mick :)

Move landing gear to touchpad. :)

Simply switch triangle and circle (fsd and boost). It takes a short while to get used to it, but it's much better.

Drop your landing gear outside the station straight after you request landing approval and also when leaving, keep your landing gear down until you've left the station to stop an unexpected boost!

I moved my boost to R3. I usually have to be pretty excited to accidentally press a stick down. "O" is now alternate flight control toggle, which for me is only a slight adjustment from the norm. It definitely won't cause me to crash.

I will say that the button combination feature is finicky. It seems you have to press and hold the desired "shift" before using the D-Pad. If you use the two simultaneously, it doesn't work as intended, at least not for me.

I've boosted a few times in error - once twice in a row, and I'm certain I was very careful about it then, so I do wonder if there's more to it than double-bouncing buttons. I've not remapped boost yet as it'd confuse me more (and I use R3 for yaw). It also adds a little excitement at times :)

Definitely having landing gear down earlier is a solution, and I tend to do it ouside the slot now, but if you do boost by mistake, get the landing gear out as soon as it'll slow you massively and mostly you'll survive.

I've played almost every day since launch and I still learn something new most days.

I learnt my lesson with unintentional boosting when I managed to wedge my Cobra MKIII into the ground buildings at an adjacent pad. And I do mean properly wedge. I received the loitering warning and then it was all over in seconds...

I would be surprised if there is a PS4 Commander who hasn't had trouble with the O button of doom!

I actually still use O for boost. No accidents for at least a week now :)

I lost out on a 500K passenger mission payment because, after a 30-40 minute trip, I accidentally boosted into the platform as I was coming in to dock. The passenger called me a "terrible pilot" and refused to pay me.

I rebinded boost to L1 + R1 and it feels good to me :) And then i got O free so i binded chaff for it. Changed it to Heat Sink when not equipped Chaff

I do this every other day or so, but I'm adamant it's not my fault. Does anyone else notice sometimes the button chords / combos / whatever seem to get confused? Like I'll hold circle and press down on the dpad, and it'll register as a press on circle and boost me gleefully into the station wall. It hasn't cost me anything (yet) but it sure is irritating. It's probably just me though, maybe I'm pressing the combo too quickly for it to register.

Gotta ask, where were your shield and hull protection? I messed up once when starting to head for the dock and trying to read a comm message at the same time. and ended up hitting the ground from 4 k's up, above a panetary station, flipped over on my back, scraped the side as I attempted to turn right side up and docked with out any damage to fix, quite to my surprise. But then I've invested heavy in to my hull's integerty.

This has been my experience too; our ships seem surprisingly resistant to being crashed into all manner of things at boost speed. I don't think I've even lost my shields doing it. Maybe I'm not doing it hard enough.

Does this work for DS4, or just HOTAS? I don't have deadzone problems, but I would like to tweak the sensitivity of my DS4.

This does indeed work for DS4, and quite brilliantly too. I have never played a console game with controls that are so configurable. Everything can be re-mapped and sensitivity / deadzones adjusted accordingly. It works so well because although numerous, all the settings are perfectly logical.

This.

I have learnt to develop a routine that I apply each time I dock. Now I'm familiar with the routine, muscle memory has started to take effect and I can approach faster and more confidently. Spacial awareness is key, as is performing a controlled checklist on actions for each take-off and landing.

As Alain Prost once wisely said, 'you have to be slow to be fast'.

Ha, well I think with experience I could avoid it, but as a newbie and trying to get used to the PS4 control, I tend to spend all my loitering time smashing off walls! Well not that long maybe but when you are a little rusty - rebuys seem to be the norm!
