PS4 Console Edition - Garbled repeating sound and crashing after latest patch

My PS4 is on v8.01 system software. I just downloaded and installed the latest Planet Coaster patch. Now when I try to play a campaign level, the audio will start stuttering very bad, and repeating rapidly, then the game freezes up. The console gave the general error code CE-34878-0. I reported it to Sony. Tried relaunching the game three times and got the same error. I was playing the game just fine before the latest patch. Any help would be appreciated. My PS4 is connected directly to a Denon X4700h receiver, and that goes out to my Sony X900h TV through eARC.

Hey @WarpedTrekker! Thank you for telling us about this, it looks like a serious issue. We're currently investigating it with the highest priority - the dev team have asked if you could send us a video recording of this issue? The longer the video the better, as we'd appreciate seeing the run up to this issue. You can send it directly to community@frontier.co.uk. It'd really help us work out what is happening here. Thank you!

I am on the last level of Captain Lockjaw's Buried Treasures. called Pirate Cove that seems to have the issue. I have emailed a share link to a video I took of the issue. I have tried reinstalling the game from the playstation store, but the same issue happens on the Pirate Cove level. Other levels previous to it seem fine so far.

@Chante Goodman I found a temporary solution. I changed my PS4 audio output from Bitstream (Dolby) to PCM, which seems to fix the audio issues. Since I'm now past the Pirate Cove level, I'll try to change it back to Bitstream again to see if the issue reoccurs.

Hi, for me the same issue. I don't have to install a new system or game update, it's all updates. When I'm playing it come out of nowhere and suddenly I get a blue screen with the message: CE-34878-0

Try to observe if it's queue building that triggers the crash. That's what does it for me and a few other people have said the same.

Okay I will check.. What's the solution for that? :)
There isn't one lol.

What I'm doing with my new park is putting in the coasters and all the rides, but leaving the queues until the last thing. At least then I don't run the risk of losing lots of work. If I leave ride queues until the end, all I risk losing is them.

Hi there everyone,

Are you pausing time a lot when you're building, then unpausing? There's an issue that occurs when the game is paused where, if you're in the wrong position when pausing the flow of time, the game stacks up audio events which don't get cleared. When you unpause the game tries to process everything and freezes.

If you don't pause, or periodically unpause the game, you shouldn't see this issue as often.

The team is looking into these issues, let me know how this workaround works for you!

Yes, I pause all the time. When I start a new park the first thing I do is close the entrance, then pause and begin building. Obviously I need to unpause when testing coasters, so yes, I toggle pause all the time.

Anyway, good to see it's being looked into. Let's hope a patch can be released soon. For now I'll just play with the pause off and put up with all the alerts about empty shops etc.

Thanks! It was a shot in the dark at least! Any additional details you can provide will help us out. The devs are aware of these issues and it's being looked into :)

The only thing I'll say which doesn't really back up your theory, is that the crashes happen for me while the game is paused, not when I unpause.

Yes I had been pausing for awhile to build things. Thanks! For now I won't pause very long so it doesn't happen. I'm glad the Dev's know about the issue. It's a fun game!

I have seen improvements on the PS4. No freezing or lockups so far. But... Yesterday I placed the game on pause for awhile and also pressed the PS button to go back to the PS4 home screen. After 30min or so I returned to the game, and it sounded like it queued up all the sounds and played them extremely fast all at once within two seconds. Then the game audio was normal again.

Also I've noticed a few music dropouts on the loading screens, where part of the music tracks will drop out for a second. This didn't happen before the 1.4.0 patch. I switched my PS4 from PCM to Dolby audio and it doesn't really seem to make any difference. FYI..my PS4 is connected directly to a Denon x4700h receiver.
