PS4 controller mapping

Ok this is really infuriating...

So my controller of choice is the PS4 dualshock controller.... Can somebody explain to me why on earth are all the key mapping say things like [Joy 9] or [Joy rx-Axis] instead of actually displaying the key icons?!

A friend of mine plays on a stupid Logitech controller and gets the icons for X-Box controller because it also does have button letters.... Why do I need to guess which button to press?!

i use a ds4 now for elite dangerous.
cple of points.
it will connect as a wirless game pad. niether xbox or ps controller. in this state there is no centre and there is a slight roll either cw or acw.
i use it connected via BT using a program that fools windows into thinking its a xbox pad. the pad will not function correctly unless this is used as well. software is free and easily souced. DS4windows, gives you full control of mapping.
gyro controls wont function in elite.
once connected ED will see it as a xbox controller! use 360 rather than ds4 control sceme:)
Y = trian, B = O, A = X, X = box

So wait... You mentioned all these things that do not work.... Can you really play the game that way?

And what is the software that fools it to be an XBox controller? DS4windows? Sorry your answer wasn't really clear on that...

You know what I love about it? The BOOST button is the same as the LANDING GEAR DOWN button. That's so fun trying to land inside a station. /sarcasm
