PS4/PSVR announcement coming soon?

Anyone know when this exclusive deal with MS ends? Im dying for this to come out PS4 especially the PSVR, im almost certain the PS4 can handle it in VR considering it runs at 1080p 60fps on X1, PS4 should have just enough extra horse power to get it done without much visual sacrifice. Im hoping to hear something soon, im sure these guys tinkered with the PSVR dev kit. They stated in the past it would eventually come to PS4 well I hope eventually is really soon[yesnod]

They haven't announced anything about it yet, sorry. I have a little hard time thinking it will handle ED in VR cause it almost puts the framerate in half compared to playing on a monitor, unless its just for CQC or maybe the new ps4 could do it, I don't know but would be cool if they get it to work.

I was sure we'd get an announcement at Gamescom, even if just for a non-VR PS4 version. It seems you might be in for a bit of a wait.

Well the reason I believe it will be possible on PS4/PSVR is that it runs at 60fps on X1, most of the added stress on the PS4s GPU will be rendering in stereoscopic 3D. PS4 has a bit more juice than the X1 so I think that added HP would be geared towards that. Keep in mind the PSVR is only a single 1080p display split down the middle, not as high resolution as the other VR kits, but apparently though lower resolution Sony pulled some pixels from the outer peripheral view and placed them in the center of each eye where your focused this adds to the appearance of higher res display. They also use an OLED with subpixels for RGB to help make up for resolution losses.

Another thing is the break out box does all the calculations for tracking the player, handles 3D Audio, and takes care of the interpolation. None of that is extra stress on the PS4 itself so even if they could only get it to run natively 45fps in VR the breakout box can bump it to 90fps with interpolation. If they can hit 60fps the breakout box can bump it to 120fps.

It's easier to optimize for PSVR because every set up is the same, where PC though more powerful has many more variations and VR is an added variable to make things more complicated. My opinion is they could probably get this to run on PSVR and make it look on par or almost on par with the X1 game. If you've seen the lates Driveclub videos, and Eve Valkyrie on PSVR the visual fidelity is extremely impressive, which makes me think this game is entirely possible on PSVR.

About the PS4 version: Microsoft has probably 1 year of exclusivity for Elite Dangerous. The Xbox One version was officially released on October 6, 2015. The Game Preview Program was not counted obviously. So Frontier will be free to discuss the PS4 version after that date. My theory is that they will announce Elite Dangerous for PS4 after October 6, and since 2.2 will be released "mid-October", my guess is that the PS4 version will be released at the same time, with all content, up to 2.2 as well. I was puzzled too, because I expected a reveal at E3 then Gamescom, but then I realized that it's not yet 1 year after the Xbox One release officially. So I don't think it's a coincidence that 2.2 will be released mid-October. They wait for the exclusivity deal to expire then announce and release the PS4 version and we'll all get the same content from then on. I wouldn't rule out PSVR support as well, I'm sure the hardware will be able to handle it. I'm also sure that VR support will come to the Xbox One too next year with the release of "Project Scorpio" which will most certainly use Oculus Rift as its VR goggle.

dont mean to burst your bubble but VR brings even high end pcs to its knees, i would say if your machine can run 2k at 60fps then it will do VR ok.
PS4 gets an easier time of it due to 60fps where are pc vr is 75 or 90fps but even so... imo VR on vanilla PS4 on games like ED will be heavily cut down.... now the PS4 neo on the other hand (and the new xbox coming next year) they i think may bring high quality VR to the table.

for example my 6core i7 with GTX980 (overclocked) cant run ED on full bubble in VR, and pCARs with a full grid.... i am looking at closer to min detail than max in VR.
