PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro

So I've been playing for a couple of years now on a ps4 slim and was thinking I may upgrade to a ps4 pro to take advantage of the better graphics? So my questions are:

1. Can I move my game over to the ps4 pro without having to start again?
2. Is the difference in graphics worth it?
3. Will I notice any difference in general gameplay on the pro?
4. Should I just wait for the ps5 or upgrade to PC (I know if PC it's start all over again)

Thanks for any help 👍😁

Save games on PS+ should be DOWNLOAD to the PS4 pro BEFORE you play the title...
Once you play the title and then transfer save games, issues with CACHE content in the Save game can be invalidated causing them to be wiped..
As long as you use the EXACT same account for PSN and the exact same FDEV account all content will transfer as long as you transfer save FIRST before booting game...

Key bindings will transfer..
visited systems will transfer..
You preferences in sound will transfer...
All all the other stuff will transfer as its on the FDEV account not the save game..

The PS4 PRO has 2 picture settings in ED one is performance, Turn stuff off to increase FPS but still be rubbish as the cobra engine is still bad port..
OR
Increase graphics and still have even worse frame rates. Both will be better than OG PS4 chip set but the COST of the pro jut for one game is stupid amount...
Other enhanced for PS4 Pro make the pro model WORTH IT... Elite dangerous does not as the cabra engine is a bad port...

Horizon zero dawn..
God of war
Uncharted
And many more make the pro worth while Elite dangerous does not... If you have other Enhanced titles they will use the extra cost hard ware way better..
ED use is a bonus the other titles are a way better display of the use of the PS4 PRO not ED...

Assuming you're not trading in your Slim straight away the get the Pro, connect both to your home network and do a system to system copy. Everything that's on your Slim gets copied to the Pro. It's the easiest way.

Really though you shouldn't bother as FDev just don't care about consoles as far as ED is concerned. If you're really still enjoying ED and want to continue playing it then move to PC.

Yeah I kind of thought that would be the way. I really like playing but the thought of starting again doesn't fill me with excitement!
So on the PC side of things what kind of set up are you looking at. I have a desktop that is showing suitable on 'can I run it' but not sure how much extra bang will make a difference.

I bought a PS4 Pro to upgrade my ED experience. I returned it less than 48 hours later. It just wasn't worth it for the minute changes to graphics settings it gave. The PS4 Pro is really meant for people who have 4K HDR monitors, something Elite does not support.

Now when I switched from PS4 to PC (and later VR), that was worth it :D

Thanks. Just the advice I need.
So on the PC front are we looking at a particularly high spec?

If you want VR, then yes. Well I should clarify that, as "high spec" is relative. Compared to PS4, what I have is high spec, but compared to these water-cooled RTX monsters people have, it's not. I'm just using a humble Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop, and it runs ED in Ultra with room to spare, and it can run VR between high and ultra settings as well. It also handles the new flight simulator in high quality settings like a champ (1080p screen).

ps - I still game on my PS4. It's perfectly fine for games like Overwatch and even games like RDR2.

Heyo! 👋

From what I have seen, the upgrade from the PS4 to the PS4 pro is very minor in terms of changes. One notable thing is that you could output in 4K for games that support it, as well as a sliiiight extra level of detail for games that utilizes the processor and PS4 pro's Boost mode.

Best thing to do is to get a PS5. PS5 does allow for PS4 games to be played on the system, as well as some of the more popular ones to make use of the PS5's specs, which may allow for some unbelievably near instant loading times if the samples shown so far are true to the final product. You could easily transfer data to the other PS4 systems via USB or PS plus, so you should in theory play the same save on PS5. Just spend the extra estimated $100 on the PS5 instead of the PS4 pro, so you could get the bonus of the PS4 pro, plus more in certain games, and future proof yourself to be able to play PS5 exclusive games, or games that uses the better specs to the fullest.

Also, supposedly the fans of the PS4 pro are LOUD. A tiny detail that should not be an issue in the PS5. 😉

It will allow some PS4 games to be played. There is no automatic backwards compatibility for all PS4 games on PS5.
Supposedly there is a rumor that it could run all games, as the games Sony is listing out are the ones specifically tested on PS5 too work well. It came from a tweet from Lance McDonald, that was pulled down real fast that got a lot of attention. Hopefully this could be the case.

"There’s been some confusion about this in the past and I can clear it up now. The PlayStation 5 can run all PlayStation 4 games without per-game whitelisting. Sony continue to test titles but the system will not prevent you from launching untested games."

Think I'll do that. Thanks

As someone who got the PS4 base model the day before the Pro and slim versions were announced, I understand the pain 😂
The wait won't be much longer now, be sure to look into which model you want and see if you could reserve a console. I think it might sell like hotcakes when it releases.

Yea, no point to get the PS4 Pro now - just wait for PS5

I wonder if Sony is still producing the PS4 Pro.
MS for example have canceled the production of XB One X in the light of the newer XB Series X
They still manufacture XB One S (the normal one, the Digital Edition was also canceled too)

Usually I would say they are since they do support their older consoles for a bit during the launch year of the newer generation, but I am also interested. Since this year's Covid-19 putting a halt on things, maybe the PS4 Pro would not last as long as the PS3 did when the PS4 came.
