Ps4 store purchases - frontier points?

I have ED on the Mac, but due to lack of support am now looking to possibly buy it for the up coming ps4 release.

I know I cannot port my progress or commanders name from the Mac to the PS4 version but have a few questions:

1. I see the physical legendary version comes with 1000 frontier points, are these points that can only be used in the PlayStation store to buy skins etc or are they points to make purchases from the frontier store directly? Reason I ask is that I have already bought limited edition skins in the past, can I use these skins on my ps4 version? Or will by future purchases be individual to the PS4 and mac as separate?

Thanks
Cmdr Ford
Been lost in the black a long time, but now I'm back!

Yeah those points are for skins/kits etc. Unfortunately ps4 is stand alone and nothing you have on the Mac crosses over

Most games on PS4 that allow the purchase of "game points" are used at the in game store. The playstation store will only sell points and then you will use them to purchase the cosmetic items you want in game form a store interface. And you will not be able to carry over that limited edition skin from another platform.

The current model on consoles is you pay for a game currency in the PS Store. This currency is then added to your PSN ID, which is linked to your Frontier account (note: when you load ED for the first time on PS4, you will need to create/link to your existing Frontier account, no need to create another; saves from Mac are separate from PS4 saves). The Legendary edition will likely come with a printed PS Store voucher/code which you will input in the PS Store. This purchase is then tied to your PSN ID, and when you load ED, it will know you have 1000 points to spend in the Frontier store.

PS4 purchases will be in game via the PS Store using "Frontier points". The Frontier Store (website) is for PC (and Mac) version purchases only.

Technically, I guess, the "Frontier store" is for all versions? It's why our PSN IDs will be tied to our Frontier accounts. The purchase method may not be web-based, however. It will be in-game on PS4. All the games I've played on PS4 with a currency for cosmetics require purchase of currency via PS Store, and that purchase is merely logged to your PSN ID, and ED will synch that purchase with your Frontier account next time you boot ED and you'll have your points to spend in-game.

On xbox it loads the browser ingame and has all the content pc has :) you can't carry content between platforms even if you use the same fdev account

Does this mean I could make a purchase on the Frontier store using my laptop, say for a paint job, and when I next load ED on my PS4, that paint job will be available?

Hitman on my ps4 has various items they sell via the play station store itself that augment the game. As do most of the others I've downloaded and tried for free. There refered to as add ons. You buy directly through them. I buy psn cards via amazon and into my wallet on the ps store.

No I'm afraid all purchases have to be done through the ingame browser for some strange reason :(

Does seem odd. You would have thought the website would allow you pick your platform account so you could purchase stuff outside of the PS4.

You can log into the online store using your fdev account as well :/ unless this is some issue with MS licensing or sommot I don't understand tbh

Thanks all for your replies, I think that helps answer my question. Seems a shame that if you buy a skin it cannot be shared across ps4 to mac/pc but I guess that's just the way it is. I was looking forward to using the limited edition vector lined 1980's skin I bought a while back, but there you go.

Still deciding between digital & physical copy for ps4. Think I'm edging towards the physical.
Once again - thank you.

Personally, I think Frontier should consider allowing Mac users to transfer their purchases over to another platform, unless they have plans to bring Horizons to the Mac. Metal 2 was announced at WWDC, so it might be an option now. If, on the other hand, Frontier is abandoning the Mac, then it's "the right thing to do" to allow you to smoothly move to something else.

I have the game on both XBOX and PC, using the same email and password, and I can confirm there is no connection between the accounts and anything purchased on one does not transfer to the other. So in my case, in order to spell my name out on my dash in each game I had to buy the bobble head letters twice, once on each platform.

I don't really mind at all, didn't mind buying the game twice or ranking up twice.

I would however like FDev to offer a one time import for those who own the game on one platform and purchase a second copy on another (without wiping the original account.)

I know a lot of people who started on XBOX and then grabbed a PC copy to use VR or HOTAS and it would be cool if they could get a one time import to PC WITHOUT loosing their progress on the XBOX as many of us still play on both.

That said, when I went to the Frontier meetup in Boston the digital gift attendees received (paint jobs and logos) did get applied to both my accounts - not sure how that happened, but it made me very very happy!

I suppose if you only have a single save and it's PS4, the web store might very well know your purchases are for that save. If XBOX users are taken to the Web store, PS4 users might be too. We'll see.

So what's on your shopping lists peeps. For me it's the Union Jack skin for the Cobra and nameplates. And the power play decals are free so them too.

My shopping list is Desert Camo skins for my ships as well as pink weapon colours and, of course, name / id plates. I'll probably get a pilot bobble-head too at some point :)
