PS4 Techy bits

Okay - I will run this past you lot because you are all way smarter than me about such things.

I have a bog standard router / modem from my ISP (VDSL gigabit Modem)

here is the details from my IP test run from my PS4 on ethernet.

NAT: Type 2
Connection Speed (Download): 15.7 Mbps
Connection Speed (Upload): 848.4 Kbps

The test also notes: "you router might not support IP fragmentation. Some network features of your PS4 might be restricted."

Should i be worried / be out buying a new router? I see a few comments about server drops - which is always inevitable at some point but i still want it to be manageable / playable. Bearing in mind I am in New Zealand so a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way from the main server.

Update: I also ran my ping from my PS4 using DLSreports.com - one of the few tests that apparently run on PS4. Came in A-Grade with a ping to the UK of 288.

Update the second: So - i did a bit more digging and found about MTU (maximum transmission units). The PS4 selects an MTU of 1500 as the default setting, however this is not the recommended fastest MTU. The max recommended is 1492. SO i jumped into my internet connection wizard and started adjusting the MTU manually up and down. I tried a range of MTU's from as low as 1200 to as high as 1500. Wow!! at 1500 my download speed was around the 8 - 10 Mbps mark (lunchtime traffic i assume vs my earlier tests which was morning / mid morning), but when i adjusted it to 1492 i was running at around the 18 Mbps mark. I ran the test several times in quick succession jumping from 1500 to 1492 and back again. So hey - jump into you connection wizard and go CUSTOM and tweak your MTU to 1492!!

At most, when I was on my PS4, I couldn't talk to other players. Grats on upping your Download speed, though. As far as IP fragmentation... Not a clue. I'm not a tech person so I just go with what the wizard tells me.
[Insert wizard joke of choice]

Out of curiosity, have to tried manually setting your MTU to 1400-1500 and testing again? I believe it sets it up automatically but you could try that. I tend to throttle my MTUs at times when the wife is watching netflix/hulu and I am trying to play stuff on my PC. Shot in the dark, but might be worth it to explore.
