PS4 to get physical disk release

..... I kept saying, "Dude I am pretty sure it's digital only, just buy it on Steam" but he insisted he wanted a disc.

If I were a PC gamer, I might feel differently (I'm not a big fan of Steam). PS4 gamers have the built-in, easy-to-use Playstation Store. I don't even have to give Sony my credit card - I just buy a PSN digital gift card on Amazon and enter the code in PSN. It's safe and easy.

FAQ states digital only on PSN.

Actually it says;

Will you make a physical disc version?
We have nothing to announce right now. Elite Dangerous is a living game and has always been digital-first.

I wonder if someone is keeping track of how many "We have nothing to announce right now."s turn into 'yeses' versus 'no/not yets'?!

I personally think this is one of the mysterious 'dependencies' we have heard about. They've said that making a physical disk is not economical for them, but if a third party comes along that can make it so, they they obviously were open to do that.

Annoying for you I know, maybe 'Caveat Emptor' next time? ;-)

LOL

It takes me a good five minutes to find the games I have bought in the store every time I look and I can never quite work out how to find out if I have downloaded all the DLC for season passes. I am sure I am missing some Starwars Battlefront stuff.

Not till after the digital version, but I might get both to show support (if they have VR).

Hmmm = depends. What comes with the physical disk? Does it add anything to an existing account if you buy digital or is it completely seperate? I'd like more details please....presumably you still need a PSN account for online play anyways so I wouldn't worry about it - we all need a PSN account but I am awaiting for an official announcement before I stump up my moolah.

Regarding being out of date - I would think that the season passes and updated would be downloaded as 'patches' to the physical disk installation? So presumably if you sold it on, it would be loaded onto the new users account and they would then have to pay for the season passes - much like any other game.

All in all - FDev marketing department are FALLING ASLEEP ON THE JOB - we are getting all our Elite Dangerous FAQs from everywhere BUT Frontier??? Really you guys, marketing 101?? Tell your loyal fan base first on your own marketing stream rather than us finding from myriad other sources... where is the love folks!!!! I appreciate you have agreements with 'fanzines' 'magazines' for the 'exclusive' but hey we should get a release on this forum the NEXT day at least!!!

23:29 here now, so tomorrow morning at 09:00 ALL QUESTION will be FULLY ANSWERED promptly ;-)

You know this is actually a marketing master stroke. They do nothing and just get the community worked up into a frenzy doing it all for them.

On the ps4 main menu scroll to the right and select library, that then shows you a submenu of all your installed and purchased games/addons :) it links strait to the store for each individual games store listing if needed as well.

Thanks. I know it's there, it's remembering to look in 'Library'. Maybe it's my age, I think of books when I see library, not games!

Thanks for that. [up]

Slight typo on the line 'KEEPING AND EYE ON THE ED PS4 FAQ'

Edit: So getting back on track... Now I have been thoroughly chastised for the error of my ways in putting cash in Sony's pocket on PSN store....

The PSN release is announced at £39.99 (FAQ) and we assume[*] it will be the same version on PC and Xbox. This is the Deluxe Commanders Edition, which comes with Horizons and some paint packs thrown in.

If the Physical release is the Legendary Edition, which comes with 1,000 Frontier Points I guess it’s safe to assume[*] that the Legendary Edition will be Commanders Edition, plus the points? Plus potentially more?

[*] Yes we know I made a balls up here already previously so massive disclaimer. :) :)

On Xbox I can understand this as it might draw new players in as its been out a good while on Xbox now so this may invigorate new players to join.

On PS4 I am not quite sure where this fits? If they are release simultaneously digital and physical it kinda makes sense. Will Legendary Edition cost more? Likely? It might have extra goodies too over those announced? Unknown?

If its released 2-3 months? (insert any period less than 12 months here) after the digital release on PS4 would seem odd as most people won't want to wait for this and would want to play when the game is released digitally.

More questions than answers, it’s a typical day for following Elite Dangerous. :)

Cheers, fixed the typo.

I think I've posted this elsewhere but I'll summarise; 'Sold Out' the company that are releasing the disc will be confident of making money on selling the discs; they will get a cut from Frontier, who will I imagine have little or nothing to lose by allowing them to do so. People who want to get the game as fast as possible will get a digital download. People who want a disc and are not bothered about being '#dayone' will buy the disc. Non-tech savvy people buying a game as a present will buy the disc. Hardcore fans who want to support Frontier will buy both! It's just simple economics and makes total sense to me. I can see how it would be nice to have it all releasing at the same time but I doubt Frontier would delay the digital release for the disc release. Sold Out may have tried to bargain for that, they do marketing as well, which may be one of the dependencies which contributes to the mystery surrounding the release date. If I was Frontier and Sold Out told me they could get a physical disc copy ready for retail very close to my provision digital release date I would go for that.

I Don't/Can't wait till on Elite Dangerous Horizons Disc version. So I will pick up the Digital version. With the 1,000 Frontier, Points I'm guessing will be the PSN currency for buying Paint jobs,Bobble heads etc. I may pick up the physical edition also depending on their value.
