PS4 Version? You make it, I will buy it!

I was happy to hear scuttlebutt about the impending release of Elite Dangerous in PS4. I tried the game on Mac and it was just slow and the controls were hard to master but I loved the game itself. Then my hopes failed when I found out it was only on PC and XB1. There would be no point in me buying a PC for a single game or an XB1 given that I already have a PS4. I don't know if the rumors are true but I hope they are.

So I will make this commitment. If you build it, I will buy it. I would even buy the game and all expansions in a pre order to be one of the PS4 beta testers. You know how to contact me. I know you originally crowd funded the game, maybe crowd fund the new release on PS4 and I will be one of the first investors.

Unfortunately, its scheduled for release only on PS 4 Pro as a joint release with Sony's VR set up.

Well I am not sure you speak for the company. Do you have a reference for that information? At any rate I already planned to upgrade to the Pro since I can use all my current PS4 games on it. I have, in fact, already pre-ordered.

“There’s no exclusivity period at the moment but we’re just developing the PS4 version of the game at the moment. We’re hoping it’s ready for you all soon but we’re not quite there yet. More to be announced soon.”

Somehow I doubt it - to ignore all existing PS4's on the market is just madness. Perhaps only available as part of the PS4 Pro + VR pack for the first two weeks or so, but otherwise...

Z...

It wouldn't be the case, anyway. At this time, Sony are not allowing developers to solely target the Pro; that's purely for people wanting a graphical polish to their PS4 releases.

Anything the Xbox One (or a PC with the minimum spec Frontier quote, for that matter) can do, a regular PS4 should be able to handle - it's just a fair bit of work to port the engine to the Playstation APIs (at least as much as it was for the Mac port, as I understand it).

Will there be a Nintendo version?

Personally, if the PS4 version doesn't utilise the PS VR, I won't be buying it. I have already bought this game twice on the PC and once on the Xbox! (FD can thank me later). However, since I can't afford a top-end PC + a Rift / Vive (and my wife plays on my Xbone now), a PS4 VR will be my limit. My gut feeling is that ED will come out for PS4 in time, but VR will only work on the PS4 Pro.

I think if we are getting it this year, it will be launch just after the 2.2 update. I suspect this time around they will want to avoid not having all of the features ready at launch.

The VR would be cool but should not be required. The game can work without all of that. The PS4 is a more powerful platform so it should be even better than XB1

I do apologise.

That was my first troll. Im trying to fit in.

To what end? What purpose was there in that. My thread was entirely reasonable I thought. At any rate you failed because a Pro update was already planned by me.

this new ps4 ....when is it out and what is its specs?.....cpu and gpu?
I thought it was obvious they would make a improved model as the standard ps4 at mo would struggle to run VR at acceptable rates....

I had a day one xbox...traded that for a ps4 within a couple of months......sold that to buy a gaming rig.

id like to see the consoles get a bit more beef to them...I may go back to them

So "...we're not quite there yet" probably means 6 more months, doesn't it?

I own it for both the PC and the Xbox One, but only play it on the Xbox now.

I'd buy the PS4 version if they implemented 2 things.
1: Utilising the controller speaker for the ship comms voice. Radio chat from stations etc. Cool if authority ships had stern voice comms too when stopping you for a scan.

2: Playstation VR! Yes please!

I think when they are ready to jip up Hype, get PS4 users frenzied with excitement and frothy with anticipation then we are gonna hear alot about it.

I dont think they would do a 2.x announcement with very small print at the bottom saying "by the way it's also available on PS4"

The VR tech they have actually has an onboard bit that duplicates frame rate, hence the VR unit working on both PS4 and PS4 Pro. PS4 Pro is basically a 4K HDR gaming console.

I'll buy it for certain, though I have the lifetime pass on PC and can't imagine buying all of the seasons on PS4. I'm more likely to buy it for PSVR and then only play CQC on that machine.

I can say for a fact that it will not be PS4Pro exclusive as Sony nixxed the idea of any pro-exclusive games. Vr however may be a pro-exclusive feature. Ok with me, my ps4 fried a week before I read the leaked info on ps4 pro... I've been waiting until that comes out to replace it.

Given that ED is pretty scaleable to most systems then I don't really see it as an issue regarding 'Pro' exclusivity or lack of. FD will just tailor the graphical settings as required. If PS4/XONE are low/medium, then PS4P/Scorpio will be ultra (probably). PS4P exists because of PSVR, so yeah it probably will have an exclusive Pro version for that.

It would be cool it it was VR enabled at least for looking around in your ship. However, I don't think that is necessary for a launch. I would play either way.

I also do have the lifetime pass on PC already and want to definitely buy it again on PS4. However, I only could justify this expense to myself (and my wife :p) if cross-save is happening. I don't want different save states on both, I want to hop between console & PC with my one existing CMDR.

If cross-save was already here, I might even have bought a Xbox One already.

I'd suspect we will see it close to Christmas and that this is the reason why 2.x has been so slow.
