What's the best way to configure my Internet connection to accommodate both a PS4 Slim & Xbox One ?

Plusnet Hub One (aka BT Home Hub 5)
7-12 Mbs down is normal
Approx 450 Mbs up

This may not be enough bandwidth at least for the upload side but down should be sufficient.

Hard wired to Netgear 10/100 switch wired to the hub.

I'm thinking one console in DMZ and port forward the other.

Anyone setup like this?

UDP 3074 seems to conflict.

Are you actually having problems using both machine on the same LAN? Have you got UPNP enabled and NAT filtering turned off / set to open?

Assuming you definitely need manual port forwarding set up for all those ports, putting one machine in the DMZ doesn't get round the problem of your router needing to route inbound traffic to 3074 to both machines and only having traffic coming in on one external IP. The router has no way of knowing which destination machine the traffic needs to go to and won't let you set up a second destination for the same port anyway.

If you're not going to use them at the same time forward all the ports to a LAN IP, set that same LAN IP as static on both machines and only have one switched on at once.

If you are going to use them both at once that's a problem but using UPNP is how most people deal with this.

If you can run a VPN on a console and can find one which does port forwarding, that's your second external IP but it'll hurt your latency and cost you money.

The DMZ is really for if you want to expose a machine to the internet or isolate it from the the LAN or both.

I want to use one while my son uses the other. XBone shows Open and PS4 Type 2
UPnP is enabled on router, can't see switch for NAT although isn't this required to share one IP Internet connection?

With no special provision, just hardwired as explained in OP, he was getting kicked from Rainbow 6 on XBone when I tried to use Eve Valkyrie War zone on PS4

However we have successfully run Cod III PS4 and Elite Dangerous Xbox simultaneously.

Xbox could be configured to use alternate port to 3074, and I'd like to avoid having to use VPN (didn't know this could be run on a console thought that had to be from a PC and then shared with console )

You don't need to switch NAT to open, people have reported that it has solved their multiple console on the same LAN issues.

OK, if you can reconfigure one console to use a different set of ports from the other that's your solution. The problem is just that you have 2 machines trying to use the same port on your network at the same time and the router can't deal with that.

I don't know if you can run a VPN on a console either, I have a PS1 somewhere but I don't think that even has networking :)

PS1 was 100% offline.

I still have mine. I dig it out every few months.

It's in rough shape though, I've had it since I was three. That's 21 years now...

It wouldn't take much for me to buy another one at car boot.

Not even sure where mine is. It's spray painted metallic red and has been modded slightly (output stage component bypass - easy job, no money) for better audio quality, my old CD4SE always sounded better though. There was a thing some time ago where people were turning their PS1s into "audiophile" CD players. There were kits produced to improve various stages and the power supply, some people spent quite a lot of money and were consequently very pleased with the results (funny how it works like that)

I'd love to be able to play Tekken again for old times sake, maybe I'll have a look for it at the weekend.

OK so looking looking at my bandwidth as a potential cause....I re-negotiated my contract with my ISP. I contacted customer service and argued with them that I'd been a long time loyal customer and that new accounts were getting much better offers than what was on offer to me via the web account management tools. They caved and gave me very nearly the same deal on offer to new accounts.

I will be moving from an 'Up To' 24Mbs service which normally gave me between 8-12 Mbs; to a Fibre package that gives a Minimum 34 Mbs and expected 38-40. Oh and that's £4 a month cheaper too ! I also made some additional savings on my bundled phone package by changing to the minimum available ( who uses landlines these days ). So all in all I'm quite pleased. I just need to see if the machines will play nicely together now.
