PS5 Hotas

Hi just started playing Elite Dangerous again on my PS5, loved it on the MAC until.. well you know lets not go there. I find the controls difficult with the PS5 and wondered if the HOTAS addition could work ? I have no idea if the ps5 controlelr and a Hotas stick will work together if its any good or if maybe trying to add use of a keyboard and 'normal' joystick would make life easier ? Help appreciated Cmdrs.

The Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas 4 is compatible with the PS5. It's the only PlayStation HOTAS that is compatible with Elite Dangerous I believe.

I hope this helps.

I've got a T-Flight Hotas and love it for flying ships. I do switch back to the DS4 for driving the SRV though as I don't find the joystick intuitive for it.

You can use a Bluetooth (and presumably USB) keyboard with the PlayStation but it is not supported in the game so only useful for eg entering system names or the chat channel. You need to stick with the hotas buttons for all game controls.

So you can have two sets of custom controls, one for the dualshock and one for the HOTAS? I'm tempted to switch after seeing that the dualshock's touchscreen isn't supported on PC. If I get my account copied over to PC I'd rather use a HOTAS than m&k and I'd like to practice on PS4 to see how I get on with it.

Yeah, in the control options screen you will see both hotas and controller options.

On PS4 Hotas will only show up as a controller option if you have it connected and switched on, I don't know if it's the same for PS5. Then it's the same as a dualshock controller with default and custom bindings on the dropdown menu.

Yeah, what Jubatus said - when the hotas is connected and you've pressed the PS button on it, it *should appear as a control option: Options >> Controls >> there's a drop down list to choose the preferred input mode.

You *may need to disconnect your Dual Sense. If it's the same as the DS4 on PS4, long press on the PS button >> Devices >> Turn off device. Then, the game should pick up on the hotas if it hasn't already. I tend to switch the hotas on first before the Dual Shock when I'm going to play Elite.

Boot the game with the hotas connected and press X at the start screen with the hotas x button , do not use the pad controllers at all.
Use the hat switch as the dpad and the Face buttons on the throttle to access the menus.
That annoying placed triangle button is very very important in the controlls config screen......

You have no idea how long I sat there last week trying to work out how to open the headlock setting so I could change it to toggle not hold. Nowhere does it say to use the triangle button. I thought I was stuck having to use hold because for whatever reason hotas controls were different. 😕
