PSA: Avoiding your repair bill

Okay, so I see thread after thread griping about repair bills. Folks, it's really simple. The most expensive part of the repair all button in port is hull damage repair. Everything else such as ammo and substructure repair is pretty minor. Repairs in port cost a lot. You can get repaired by a repair limpet (one at a time.) Repair limpets are cheap at 100c a cargo space. So if you're farming whatever content that is damaging your hull, buy and use repair limpets.

Oh man you just spilt your beans. :O.

Do you remember that brief moment when repairs and fuel costs where a real factor in this game?

Until a bunch of Cmdrs went broke and had that removed.

I remember when I almost totalled my Anaconda, 11% hull, modules a mess. I forget what I did, but I barely made it home.

My repair bill was like, 100k..

For a 400,000,000cr ship.

I think all the threads about repair bills are actually complaining they're ridiculously cheap. Lol

I remember, it was a constant threat and made each trade deal really tricky and interesting.

Plus OP, modules are expensive, hull is cheap. I can come back with 50% hull on my Corvette and pay 100k, but if my expensive modules are 50% then that bill goes up a lot more.

Yes, i miss the times, when it was actually an endeavor to keep the ship in the void. The game delivered much more feeling of being the space adventurer, sometimes forced to do the shady things for another full tank and a ton of tea and to afford that rail gun... I wish those times come back, but that won't happen...

I remember too, it was basically people buying the most expensive ship they could barely afford then expecting them to be maintenance free. Try doing that with a car.

With the money in the game now they ought to be raised substantially. Give folk something the think about.

Heh... try out your repair bill after hauling corrosive cargo for a while.

If they made it 50% I'd have to start to be cautious. Down to 350m. I don't fly big ships so the bill is never massive but I think it's around 10m for my ferdelance, if it was 50m.... But then again I pretty much decide to blow up or not. If I really didn't want to then I would just high wake in PvP. Groms are easy to avoid if you stay close whilst charging. The only really worry is packs killing thrusters. When I first played I didn't read anything on the internet. It took me a month to get a cobra. Then another three to get a vulture. This is why they need massive 10b expensive destructible player carriers/destroyers. It would change all the dynamics. And allow for more player politics, as long as they had to be piloted by at least two players. But as with everything that the community wants and no doubt frontier wants, the instancing is too broken to make it work. So probably a hard reset is needed. As in elite deadly

Halcyon days! I distinctly remember back in Beta that I'd forgotten to fill up at the star on the way to a station, and was charged an arm and a leg for fuel once I'd arrived!

I'd love the original fuel pricing to come back as it made scooping a very good plan, rather than just on longer trips.

OP is playing a different game and reading different forums...

1) The hull is the cheapest part of a ship to repair, module damage is more expensive, obviously this gets more pronounced as the ships get larger and module costs increase.

2) There are no threads complaining about high repair bills.

3) There are loads of threads complaining repairs and other things are too cheap.

However, your advice is 100% valid, it is definitely cheaper to use AFMUs and repair limpets. Wish I had space for either on my combat ships. :p Hell, I'd take a docking computer before repair limpets (but AFMU has some combat benefit). ;)

That a bad combo. As it stands now all a player has to do is repair is the Power plant resupply at that a station. Have a Repair unit and Hull repair unit installed. They only have to pay 5% of the cost of all the repairs.

Here an idea. If your ship damage. You should not be able to buy Auto Repair unit or Hull repair unit ammo limpets because your ship is already damaged. It will force people to have to hold both units to bypass the lower full repair.

Sorry tossing ideas.

No worries on tossing ideas, my response is quite straightforward and of course is based on the way I play and outfit. :)

What you say is true, one could easily go buy those things, use them, avoid a repair cost and sell them again. However, my real life time is worth more than the credits of repairing any ship even if all modules were destroyed and the hull at 1%. I'd rather repair than even watch my ship go down into the hangar. Call me extravagant and impatient! :) Bottom line though, I say whoever is prepared to go to outfitting, buy the stuff, put it on the ship, leave the station, use the stuff (takes some time), request docking again, land, sell the gear again, replace the original items, and then return to what they were doing...I take my hat off to that person and their sheer scrooginess which is on a level that would make Scrooge McDuck green, and they can have their free repairs if you ask me. :D

AMFU on my expeditions is a must.

Even though it doesn't repair the PP or Hull Integrity, it doesn't bother me when I return & dock with maybe 98% PP & 0% Hull Integrity. I just go to Maintainance & pay my 1mil credits & move on.

There comes a point in ED....& it's pretty quickly now!....when a player can make soo many credits, that even thinking about trying to cheapen any repairs is irrelevent.

I suppose it'll only really effect those players that fly a ship without enough credits for insurance cover. But if they're gonna do that, they're unlikely to repair at every Station anyway.
