Distant Worlds II Event PSA Careful with multi-crew on DW2.

The 'usual suspects' are joining multi-crew in open to both scout out victims locations and to greif them with their own fighters/scb's etc. Be aware and if you multi-crew, turn off the stuff that can damage you or you don't want depleating if you don't know your ride-along.

When you open your ship for multi-crew and someone joins are they immediately able to control your turrets, chaff, etc?
Or must they be assigned a role before they can start firing stuff off?
Are they able to assign themselves a role?
If not, can you as a commander elect to simply not assign them a role and let them just sit in their seat as an observer?

These are sincere questions; I've never used MC before but have been thinking about opening my ship up for it.

I only used it a time ago in the beta, so maybe a more knowledgable person will shout up.

From what I recall they can assign themselves a role if it is 'empty' so gunner or SLF pilot. Then can then use any elements that are switched on, scb's,chaff heat sinks etc as gunner as well as fire on any targets if you have active turrets. If SLF is turned on they can use that and fire at you, or security services, stations etc. I don't think you can limit unoccupied roles but you can kick them if you realise what they doing in time. So turn off your stuff or don't invite randoms.

Edit; When you open up your ship to multi-crew I believe you can also specify if legal/illegal activities and it will auto kick anyone doing criminal stuff, but you can still get wanted before the kick I think.

2nd edit; obviously the above legal/illegal thing will not happen if in lawless/unexplored space.

Yup, Wolf Starslayer is correct on all accounts. You can also restrict what gunners are able to use via the Ship panel - or, if you want to go the extra mile, just power those down. Unless you plan on using them yourself, of course.

Also, I've had MC seats open both before and after DW2. Since the expedition started, I've had three players just come in, not say a word, then leave after a short amount of time. (Not a crash or disconnect, mind.) That didn't happen with any of a dozen players before. Might have been because they checked my Cutter and decided that it wouldn't be worth the effort to fly to to gank. So yeah, take care if you decide to host.

I had joined few random commanders on their way for DW02. It was nice to talk with new players (in some times even using the "broken" chat on the XBOX), exchange ideas and provide some useful hints to manage their ships (PIPS, modules, etc... whatever).

Unfortunately joining another ship in MC for exploration doesn't pay Cr. but who cares, in MC I was able to manage the FSS and speed up the system mapping, helping the fellow CMDR to find ELWs, WWs and everything else was interesting to see.

I took also some nice pictures... I am really sad for all those players who can't understand what kind of nice experience ED could provide.

o7 and fly safe!
