PSA: Colonia low mission payouts are working as intended - See Dev post within.

I keep spotting people asking for a fix to this, but I spotted this on the devtracker yesterday

'I have spoken on the long range or colonia mission rewards before. They are low as they are meant to be a bonus for people making the journey to colonia (and bac,k or elsewhere) rather than us trying to promote people taking on a journey of that size. I can understand that this means they appear to be a bug, but at the moment we don't consider them to be.'

Please note, I have no real opinion one way or the other, beyond hoping the number of these missions gets reduced so as not to block other missions from spawning, there tend to be rather a lot of them.

They're not a Bonus, they're an insult. Well except the data ones they're fine which suggests to me the delivery/passenger ones are bugged otherwise how else do you explain the huge difference in pay? Passenger & Delivery missions normally pay more than data.

They really need to reduce the frequency of these Colonia related missions.
Even with extra missions on the board, they will be impacting on the numbers of 'local' missions that a player needs in order to gain rank with a faction.

So, does this mean in real life I can hail a taxi and ask him to take me 1,000 miles out of the way as long as I pay him $5 and give him a back rub? I mean, he's heading that way anyway, I mean eventually. Might as well use his fuel, his car, his time, and his resources to get there.

Sounds like a great bonus guys. I'm sure it will work out beautifully for all.

While its not much of a bonus, at least explains why they don't consider it a bug. So, now you know. Don't expect a change. Don't plan any trips to colonia based on missions. But, if you are going to colonia, feel free to pick up some missions for your local faction. At least you contribute to their INF from 22k LY away ;)

Doesn't explain a bonus detour message that one of the commanders posted in this forum, paraphrase "We need you to deliver 'items' to Colonia, reward 100k"; I'm sorry, but the 'working as intended' excuse does not fly with me.

I suspect - and FD can comment on that here if desired - that as those missions appear quite high in lists, I suspect lot of newbies see them as 'ohhh, lots of money' and ignore distance.

I think they should decrease probability for them and be done with. They might be interesting for some, but I think long range missions should stay within bubble.

Working as intended means it is by design. Then we just shift blame from coders to designers :) As I wrote, I suspect what are reasons for that...And there might be other reasons FD just not tell us.

It's just that there are quite a few of them, and honestly, when I make the trip out to Colonia, I like to take my time and explore along the way. The last thing I want in my hold is cargo, or passengers in my cabins, because that invites a veritable smorgasbord of interdictions. Dealing with all of that, and getting to Colonia on a schedule for a measly 50,000 or 100,000 credits? It really is less of a bonus, and more of a big target on one's back for next to nothing.

At the very least, they may need to reduce the number. I was in Wu Guinagi, and the top half of my available missions lists was dominated by trips to Colonia for pocket change.

And you get to set performance criteria, expect him to go shopping for you and kill your enemies.

Just like Uber.

I don't really care for Colonia missions to start paying off.

However, can we just stop having every single mission board being at least 1/3 aimed towards Colonia? It's ridiculous. The area is not that important for literally every single faction in the whole galaxy to be interested at them.

I've already spoken my mind on that thread already, I really hope someone takes some ownership on this and applies a little common sense and sanity. Sometimes I think FD are living on another planet when it comes to design and balance in missions.

Yup, the amount of them is silly and i think needs tweaking. But FD need to decide if they want to.

This issue of too many Colonia missions came up several times during Beta testing. It appears eminently possible for the Devs to tweak the system to adjust the number of missions appearing, but from correspondence in posts in the forums, the Devs were reluctant to tweak them too hard for fear of reducing the numbers of missions too far. (I presume the BGS is sensitive) Well, they adjusted the missions downwards from an absurd amount (major percentage in Beta were to Colonia) to what we have now.

If it's still too many, I recommend Commanders post bug reports with images of the missions available so that they can see. The problem is, that there are probably a lot at some systems, under some BGS situations, and fewer at others. They need to see it is still a problem (if it is) in the overall big picture of things.

That's what we did in Beta, and saw results, but we did have good Dev contact on this in the Beta forums while the mission boards were being adjusted. Unfortunately, out of Beta, the forums can become a bit of a ding-dong debate if a Dev comments, so the bug reporting route would be the best one in my opinion (if my opinion counts at all).
