PSA: FDLs and the Upcoming Age of Automation

Hello, Commanders!

As we all know there's been a lot of buzz regarding the new docking computer and supercruise assist modules. Whatever your feelings are, I think we can all agree there is one ship that does not need them: Zorgon Peterson's Fer De Lance.

But what if I told you the situation was even more dire than we realize?

I mean, don't take my word for it, I'm hardly the best FDL pilot in the game or anything but when you've been driving one long enough there's a certain sense of pride you develop. It's an amazing ship perfectly suited for its role: hardcore murder. Think about it: you're basically flying around in Hans Gruber's suit wishing you could talk about industrialization and men's fashions all day but hey, work must intrude.

Anyway, point is, don't do it. You'll probably trigger Ragnarok too.

Take care out there!

P.S. This post is Old Duck's fault. :)

Forgive me, for I have sinned. Hear my confession.

I often put turrets on faster fighter ships.

[insert dramatic pause]

I hate the FDL cockpit, so I don't fly one, but if I did, it would likely have turreted weapons. Not the huge HP, that would be a fixed weapon, but I often mix fixed and turrets and just skip over gimbals. I figure this gives me the best of both worlds, and it lets me fly more interesting maneuvers. The DPS I lose from going turreted over gimbal is often made up with time-on-target, and it's more cool from a modern sci-fi feel.

My nippy Courier has one fixed and two turrets, and I have a blast with it. I've also run turrets on my Cobra and even my Vulture before. Currently my Vulture has two fixed cannons, so it's not like I need turrets, but sometimes being an oddball who says "screw the meta" has its own rewards.

All this said, I'll never put turrets on my Sidewinder or Viper III - that's just silly talk!

Turrets on a vulture, words do not describe the level of smugness I am feeling right now.

When somebody puts a docking computer on a Fer-de-lance Jameson Memorial will collapse into 7th dimensional wormhole to Raxxla
