[PSA] Just Go AFK When Mining.

Don't log out!

Logging back in spawns a host of random NPC's. Lol

You're literally safer just leaving the game running if you need a quick break.
(Obviously, log out for extended breaks)

I logged back in and a FAS and 2 Pythons spawned, and tried to steal my LTDs and VOs.
Unfortunately, I was experimenting with multiple Abrasion Blasters to try and get more fragments, so I was unarmed.
:p

The good news is, if your ship can take it, you can ram pirates until they flee now. :D

Still made about 300m today. Money money money!

Some stuff in this game runs like clockwork (in a bad sense) including this annoying spawns to make it exciting or whatever. This can also happen hundreds of kilometers away from the POI or in the middle of nowhere.

It was ever thus, back before we could select what to pick up, I occasionally got rid of pirates by dumping low grade stuff that I had picked up.

Yep.... enter some uninhabited Ring in the middle of nowhere... *poof* magically NPCs spawn all over the place, almost like in a RES. It's bizarre and very poor.

It makes no sense, at least not in uninhabited Systems.

My personal rule : if there weren't NPCs in SuperCruise - there can't be NPCs suddenly appearing out of nowhere in some Asteroid Ring.

PS.
I like swapping Hotspots and mostly mine in uninhabited Systems. I also like to take breaks during long Mining runs.
The sheer presence (and stupidity) of NPCs there scanning should go.

Seems the general rule is in-bubble=spawns (inhabited system or not).

I've been mining around a remote system outside the bubble, and never get the pirate spawns.
Not saying it makes sense to have pirates spawn at every location in the bubble. Personally this is something I'd actually like to see more randomized. So it's an actual surprise. Instead the standard procedure of: drop in, wait for spawns, boost away until out of range, start mining.

Nothing new here...

This.

Always makes me smile/cringe when I see people suggesting doing anything mining-related in more than one go (such as, for example, collecting a couple of tonnes of Painite for Selene Jean with the intention of going back to accumulate more).

You always get those nosey NPCs spawning which means dropping into a mining area without an empty hold is going to be a hassle.

Well my trick is now to drop 1t of whatever, and when they go to scoop it, ram them until they leave.

My Anaconda only has a 6C Bi-weave. But it's surprisingly good at it.

It's quite hard to ram an Adder though...

Admittedly, I've stopped caring as much since I swapped from a T9 to a T10 for mining. :p

It's still faff, though, if you're in the middle of a mining mission, pop back to a station for more limpets (or whatever else) and know you're going to have to swat a couple of pirates when you have another go.

Really must go and find my mining T10, upgrade it with the new toys and go and check out the new mining at some point.

New mining is brilliant. Well, the core part is.

I don't bother with the subsurface missiles or mining laser, they need further balancing to make it worth while to carry 2 extra modules.

Just the abrasion blaster and seismic charges.

Lucrative and good fun!

At the end of the day, I suppose it just depends. I have been known to strap some basic mining gear onto one of my Anacondas, just so I can ensure those pirates that came a long way for my tasty cargo get to take the express trip back home, via the Search and Rescue express. I don't much care what they bring or how many there are. Trading off the minor damage of my two small hard points for a pair or lances doesn't make enough of a difference.

But I'm not doing full-scale mining in my Anaconda. I have a Type-9 for that, with a suitable Prismatic Shield - just enough to ensure I can break the mass lock of a ring and jump away before they even hit 50%. But that's a mining ship, not a combat ship, so there is that - though I did fry a sidewinder with it once, just out of spite.

Very true OP , my first bout of mining in 3.3 was done shortly after finishing a nightshift. Eager to test out the feature i set off and said "ok, when i crack my first core i'll mine it and get some sleep".

After a short while i managed to find a core with 12 void opals, scooped them up and by this point i was very tired so thought id logout and sell them when i got back (i was mining in a cobra mk3).

Logged back in and loaded up the galaxy map so i could choose where to sell , shortly after i had a brainfart and realised that pirates like to spawn in rings after a loadup. Come out of galaxy map to see 4 blips on my radar and a message of intent lol ... sad to say that my escape attempt was very short lived, been back since and made a tidy profit so not all a total loss.

Tl'Dr ... always remember the pirates who spawn into rings on a load in.

Not only happens with mining.

I did a wrong glide and ended 50+km above ground level and there it was, an asp on my side on a completely random area.

The game spawns randomly wathever it wants in any opportunity.

Its like when you jump to a system and there's no one around, completely empty of life and then the spawns begin.
