General / Off-Topic PSA - No Better Time to Upgrade to PRO

I have read that if you already have a ps4 and don't have a 4k tv there isn't much advantage in up grading. have other cmdrs had experience with this?

I'm a frugal penny-pincher, but I must admit I was tempted by the Pro even though I only have a 1080p display. In the end my frugal side won, and I'm still getting great enjoyment from my "meager" PS4 Slim :D

If I had the old original power-guzzling PS4, however, I probably would have upgraded...

I upgraded to a PS4 Pro specifically because I wanted to experience Elite Dangerous with the best possible graphics even with my 1080p TV. I haven't been disappointed as the quality setting works really well. I have no intention of upgrading my TV until it dies so whilst I won’t get the benefit of 4k/HDR anytime soon (on other titles) the Pro does give a noticeable frame rate boost. Gran Turismo Sport has a quality mode too thats runs in 2k giving better quality visuals even on a 1080p TV. It also loads X-COM 2 missions much much faster than my old original PS4 did.

So all in all I am happy I made the upgrade, even if it means upgrading again to a PS5 in a couple of years.
