Engineers PSA - Obtaining the Sirius Permit

No doubt I am not the only one casting an eye on those sweet rank 5 thruster upgrades. To get access to the engineer in question one first needs the Sirius permit.

Easiest way to get the permit is combat (for me), so I checked around and found HIP 8396. Sirius is the controlling faction, it has multiple res sites and turning in over a million in bounties just got me promoted from (the lower range of) cordial to friendly. I expect another few million will have me allied with them in no time.

So head to HIP 8396 if missions are not your thing / take to long to reach allied (and boy do they take long...)

Getting allied with Sirius corp is easy enough if you have exploration data to spare, but right now the permit opportunity mission seems to be bugged and doesn't actually give you the permit...

It the Sirius invite for Marco Qwent still bugged? I also have been allied with Sirius Corporation and have had a Sirius permit for the at least six months. I have the first part from Elvira, but despite completing 20+ missions for Sirius Corp at Avik and HIP 8396 I have yet to receive an invitation mission for Marco. I hope they will fix this bug soon.

The invite for Marco isn't bugged, it's getting the Sirius Permit itself that's the problem.

If you already have the permit, you should see an Engineer invite mission at a station in the Sirius system.

No, it isnt bugged. Go to nav beacon in avik and you will unlock it very quiclky. In the outposts at that system there are many permit missions.

What sucks -- and it does just plain suck -- is that there is no explanation in the game for this. I got my reputation through doing missions out of Avik and Procyon, but had to go to six or seven stations before I finally found one that had the mission for an invitation, and it was a station I'd never even been to before. There's nowhere in-game that explains this, and the best out of game help (it's Engineers -- everything about Engineers is soul crushing) basically says, "try going to other stations." Well, it helped, I got my permit, but it'd be nice to get a message in game that says, "We now offer a permit mission to allow you access to Sirius, but you will have to go to each of our stations randomly to discover which one we've hidden it on! Best of luck!"

Even that would be INFINATELY better than ... nothing. I don't know if FDEV thinks the lack of in-game explanation is part of Elite's charm or what, but I could ignore the mission garbage until it became apparent that you really need the Engineer upgrades to continue playing the game. It has been an all around horrible gaming experience; I'm really hoping I can get it over with and put it behind me, but each broken task that requires me to come here or reddit to discover it is a.) broken or b.) not explained anywhere in the game is tarnishing the Elite experience.

Switch game mods to get diffirent missions, it still works, you have 2 or 3 seperate boards of missions for solo/open/private they reset every X minutes

I didn't do it via missions (mostly). I found a station under Sirius Corp control then sold them exploration data and metals from mining.

So. To clarify. I have the message saying that I have gained enough rep to be given the invite. Do I just have to fly around Sirius controlled space checking the msg boards?

Do you have the Sirius permit?
You need to be allied with Sirius Corporation to get this, which is more than you need for the invite from Marco. Without the permit you won't be able to get to the Sirius system to see Marco.

@nebohtes... i get what you are saying and you have my sympathy. My role play attitude is that we are trying to get along in a hard and unforgiving galaxy where nobody owes us anything and we succeed or fail by our own wits. Forums such as here and reddit are our 'drinking holes' where we share ideas and news with other commanders...

"We now offer a permit mission to allow you access to Sirius, but you will have to go to each of our stations randomly to discover which one we've hidden it on! Best of luck!"

As tomalus says, the quickest way of finding the invite mission is refreshing the board by relogging. The mission probably was available at the original station you were at originally, however you had to refresh the board (maybe more than once) for it to show up. So it's not so much a case of 'we've hidden it, try somewhere else!' as 'it's not quite ready yet, please check back later!'

I totally agree that this could be explained better somewhere in-game as this situation happens with other missions with specific triggers too, such as Naval Rank missions. I don't mean the game should be specifically telling you to relog but a mention that the stations boards might need to refresh before you can pick up the invite might be nice. Then the player could go off and do something else for 10 minutes or have a break before coming back to check the mission boards.
