PSA: there are population "oases" if you're new to distant travel

I've been playing on and off for a couple years and did not have the intestinal fortitude to travel more than 1-2kly from the bubble. Little else worse than collecting millions or 10s of millions in exploration data only to pancake on a planet or some other mishap. I realize it's a "L2P" issue, but learning and remembering things like "always have an AFMU", "be careful landing on high-G planets", etc. can get to be a lot. Then there's doing everything needed to maximize FSD distance (engineering weight reductions, FSD engineering, guardian mini-game, etc). It can all be overwhelming when deciding to make those bigger distances.

Late last night I finally crossed the 5kly threshold, which unlocks a couple engineers, and of course I'm VERY nervous about making it back in one piece to sell my cartographic and biological data.

On a hunch, I did a Spansh search (amazing site, http://spansh.co.uk ) for all systems with any population and lo-and-behold, there are a handful of systems a few kly from the bubble:

The interactive galaxy map at https://edastro.com/galmap/ is a wonderful tool for any explorer. There's lots of filters that you can figure out on your own (most are self-explanatory).

For where to repair/sell data, use the filters on the top right. Turn on "POIs & Nav Markers". It will show you stations and outposts far away from the bubble. Additionally, turn on "megaships" to reveal what you're probably seeing on Spansh, which is the Colonia Bridge, a recently constructed network of megaships that offer tritium support for fleet carriers, as well as repair/universal cartographics. If you're truly far away from either of those, then enable "DSSA Carriers" which are player run carriers who agree to stay static in a distant system in the black.

Feel free to inquire if you have more questions!

Thanks! That's probably the 4th or 5th site I've been directed to for ED help. Another great one from the looks of it :)
