PSA: Volcanic Materials are Fixed

Whether it's worth it now, I'll leave up to you. Almost every geological object comes with a crystal attached. Those can give any grade of material found on the planet, regardless of shape. The drop table seems to represent the planetary composition. This means farming g4 materials isn't very efficient. High volcanic activity and a planetary composition that aligns with material trader categories will increase the output of materials you are looking for.

Personally I am using a Sidewinder with a mining laser to pop crystals loose and collect them. It's agile and small enough to get between the rocks. Nothing more sad than a high grade material you can't pick up. Depending on the terrain, the SRV may do well enough, too, so you might want to bring one along. I'm just happy I can use my planetary mining Sidewinder again.

It isn't too late yet to go slappin' some crystals in Horizons and fill up your raw materials storage before the merge. I heard HIP 36601 is lovely this time of the year.

Never thought of using a Sidewinder for planetary mining. Must give it a try.

Edit: if I build one I'll call it Pop'n'Scoop.

We've been tracking this. It is still very rare if not darn impossible to see a L4 mat but at least its a start. More people trying it out and confirming we are not getting L4 mats would be a good start.
I did get a single Antimony so far and a few Cadmium Tungsten and Molybdenum. But I agree, the probability is rather slim. If they used the planetary composition as distribution the chance for Antimony at that planet are 0.9%. Currently I am at a planet with 1.5% to see if there is some level of difference. Geological nodes definitely are not good for g4 material farming.
