PSA: You can STILL Brick Your Account. Likely Culprit Inside. Take Care With Storage Commanders

Ok, thanks to Tech Support, and the heroic self sacrifice of Commander Titler to the gods of testing again, I've likely found the culprit for another reason accounts are being bricked.

Long story short, normally items that draw too much power can be purchased, but turn off when equipped. If an item in Storage is too far above your Power requirements, it will be marked in red, but can still be transferred back to your ship all the same. However for some reason, either it arrives and doesn't power down, or it breaks the data base just by the act of transfer, and this bricks your account again.

I did this because I also discovered that if your current Balance is lower than the resale worth of an item, the Storage also marks items as Red, as if you were trying to buy that item... but will, with occasionally Outfitting crashes, transfer correctly as it should (as the true cost is 0). Trying that with items that should be transferable and then power down doesn't work, with fatal consequences.

This is still true after today's mini-patch to remove the double-unique problem.

DON'T MOVE ITEMS THAT ARE RED BECAUSE OF POWER DRAW THEN.

See you all in game again when I get my account returned a second time then :p

Thanks. So let me get this straight... If I transfer a module that isn't red, I'll be fine?

Why is this not a sticky - seems a little bit important!

I've literally just got home, seen the tech support unlocking my account, and worked my way through until I could break my account a second time to confirm my suspicions; Frontier will only know of it once they see my bug report, but I made sure to share it with everyone as soon as possible.

As far as I can tell, yes. But I would recommend moving modules the old fashioned way for a little while to be safe, especially for anything you can't afford to lose.

i reported that i had the same problem its now 2 days since i raised a ticket and i still cant play support replied to my ticket with a fix that did not fix didley squat and haven't replied to to my resubmitted ticket
so here i sit broken hearted and still cant play so if any kind hearted support people read this please sort my account pretty please as i am totaly bored now

My ticket kept being accidentally closed; go back and check yours, and make a new post to unlock it... I think maybe they've put all similar bugs into a single group, and because the unique items issue is technically "fixed", they're auto closing all similar ones.

I've done a good deal of shuffling upgraded modules around from ship to ship in the release version and so far no issues. Even before today's patch, but I have never seen one of these RED modules, so all of the ones I am shuffling between ships must not fall into this "Account killer" category. (THANK GOD!)

So, I will continue to use the new feature. I have a Python, a Corvette and an Anaconda which share a lot of the same module classes, so I have been pulling my best Grade 5 upgraded FSD out and storing it anytime I swap ships, and putting it into the other ship that can accept it. Doing the same with a couple of Distributors, Power Plants and of course weapons.

All three of my ships had Grade 5 Upgrades, but it wasn't until the storage feature came out that I could put all of them up on blocks so to speak and finally determine which one was the absolute best upgrade of the bunch. I was surprised how different 4 C3 Beam Lasers could be that all had the same Light Weight Mod applied.

Anyway... I digress.

I'm really grateful to you and others who have taken the time to help sort this out! I was already well involved in all this shuffling stuff when I first saw that Bulletin Frontier posted on the launch page of the game! Needless to say, I felt like I had dodged a bullet! ;)

Cheers.
