PSN/PS Plus question

Just got a PS4 for the kids.

Bit confused about how to set up the accounts.

I have a teenage son who wants to play online with his friends.

Two younger children who'll want to play online eventually I guess.

Plus me who wants to hold the purse strings and play occasionally, including online.

I need PS plus for this I gather but...

Can I set that (PS plus) up in my name but allow the kids to use it with their own online names?

Thanks

As far as I know yes? I know PS4 Elite version specially supports multiple online names (thus multiple commanders).

Yes, definitely. There is a key part to this though, as I guess there are two different types of accounts. There’s like a full account that you could sign up for PSPlus for, and then there is a sub account. In most cases, I guess it doesn’t matter, but a couple of games balked about the multiple full accounts and I had to create a sub account instead. You buy the games, they’re on your full account which has PS Plus, all the sub accounts have access to the games but you can put some filters on them. Don’t know if you can block specific titles but you can block games beyond a certain rating if you wish.

Note: it wasn’t in the past and still may NEVER be possible to convert a sub account into a full account. So your kids grow up, they move out, they have to create an all new account with a different name in order to start buying their own games.
