PSVR?

Why not?

If this game on the PC supports VR then why the hell does it not support it on the PS4?

Come on guys I really don't want to twist my controller all over the place to have a look around when i have a perfectly good PSVR sitting idle when I'm playing this game.

This and this alone is a major let down for this game.

I'm not quite sure the PSVR has the resolution to play the game, I think the on-screen messages and text could be too hard to read?
but I could be wrong and I don't have a PSVR.

I'm a huge fan of VR, and have been carefully following it from day one. The most important thing is it is a good experience, and we're not there yet in terms of the quality. It's certainly something we'd like to consider, but quality is vital.
Q: I've been playing this game on the Vive since it came out and it's still the best VR experience out there. Has there been any progress made on the PSVR support? Is it even doable, especially on the standard PS4? We're not expecting miracles, it's still a console, but the Frontier team has proven that they can optimize the hell out of this game. I remember booting it up on a 2008 PC and it ran fine.
I agree. It is great on both the Vive and Oculus. We have a big team on the game, and optimisations are coming all the time, but I completely understand what you're saying too. As I said on a previous question though, quality is vital.
Q: are you at liberty to discuss what specifically with the quality is the problem? visuals - motion - whats the PSVR Lacking that you need?
Framerate and so motion is the key element here.

My interpretation: there won't be a PSVR version, as the PS4 hardware is not good enough to deliver the quality the want it to have. Eventually with a PS5 (speculation), as that would rule out the hardware constraints.

I played it all night long yesterday using PSVR, sure resolution is less crisp but you can read text ok. Especially since right now only Cinematic Mode works...

Please FDev at least introduce Head Tracking into ED... there is the PS_Camera and there is PSVR Both do track reasonably well...

with all due respect, psvr quality is absolute garbage. you can almost touch the pixels with your fingers :D

i literally cancelled an order of psvr some months ago after a 30minute playtime session with psvr.

4k is barely enough for a VR experience, and ps4pro has nowhere near the firepower needed for that.

ps5 + psvr mark II (with 4k at least; preferable 2x - one for each eye)

The quality is indeed not that good, but you can still have a great and immersive experience. I played a few games with PSVR (e.g. Star Trek Bridge Commander), and after a few minutes the immersion gets me and the low quality doesn't bother me anymore. Higher pixel density would be obviously nice, but that's not the most important thing.

PSVR is for the masses, therefore they did a really good deal in balancing cost and performance. The other VR Googles are only slightly better ( on paper ). It´sure will be at least 2-3 years until we see a new generation of headsets hitting the market that might even have Full HD for each eye. for almost 20 Years VGA on each eye had been 5K$ pro equipment so PSVR is a huge step forward already :)

I have the Oculus Rift DK2, and the PSVR had a far better resolution than it does, but even with the low res DK2 ED is an amazing game in VR. I still remember the first time I started the game in VR, I spent a good ten minutes standing *in* my ship looking out of the windows at the station, while swearing to myself. Elite Dangerous in VR is almost a brand new game, and the sense of its scale is something you just can *not* get from a flat screen. I really hope FDev put PSVR support together quickly, as thanks to not needing a keyboard or other secondary controller, PSVR + HOTAS will be the ultimate in immersive gameplay for me.

All I read from this, is that "framerate and so motion is the key element here"....

Those are things that can be improved upon with future optimisations... So i'm not ruling PSVR out just yet.

I even played ED in VR on an embedded GFX iMAC21,5 with my iPhone6s and Google Cardboard Glasses and it is by way the coolest VR experience so far. If I you compare EVE Valkyrie e.g. there is absolutely no indication why ED should not be an ultra cool experience to play. The Problem more likely is that a lot of people expect things technically not possible today...

Because even the Pro would be pushed hard and the rules around PSVR mean it must work on PS4 as well.

I had a DK2 as well. I can remember the massive jump in quality when I squeezed a GTX980 videocard into my computer. The VR experience relies heavily on the quality of the graphics fed to it. I know that David Braben will try his darndest to get VR to run on the PS4 version, and I hope he succeeds.

But if it turns out too impossible a task, I hope that he gets VR in there somehow, even if it's just flying about in Arena.

I've messed around with the PSVR hack for PC and resolution isn't too bad, same with playing it on PS4 in cinematic mode, it's not ideal as far as reading small text is concerned but tbh from what I've used of the Vive I doubt the PC headsets are doing much better. I'm praying we get it, but with Sony requiring no bias for PS4 pro, I suspect achieving consistent framerate on standard ps4 without too much visual sacrifice will be what it comes down to. Fingers crossed.

i have a psvr as well Id be happy with just the head tracking at the moment in stead of using the controller. If you play elite in the psvr as a cinamaic screen you can see how low the graphics go.. the psvr does need work and needs to use 120hz not the standard 60.

Hi guys, i hope too for a PSVR release of this great game .... this would be awesome....

(Ben on knees) Please, consider a VR versione of ED.

p.s. Sorry for my poor english, i'm from Italy ^_-

Have a nice day

I think the players themselves could choose what is best for them to use VR or play on the TV. But I am sure that this game should have support for VR. I really hope that the developers still will be able to give us an opportunity will plunge into the atmosphere of this great game using VR. Sorry for my English I'm from Poland. Good luck to everyone!!!
