Public Log, JV-88L. End of the Storm Runner.

I'm Janette Vasquez, I used to be a pilot in the federal navy, a damn good one at that. I earned my place in the federation, earned my ship, earned my credits through hard work and commitment.

Flying the Storm Runner always flagged me as an federal pilot and I had no shame in that. The cradle of humanity, the first frontiersmen to leave earth. it's a proud history. Though a lot's changed it seems.

I encountered many commanders out there in space, and they all had some kind of judgement to pass on my ship. Some were praise on it's prowess, some were grateful for it's protection but many scoffed at it being a federal ship, with a federal pilot. I started to ask why, and what I uncovered.. Is the reason I stepped out of politics and superpowers entirely, it's the reason I'll live in my ship as long as I can and not have to deal with this squabbling.

The common theme I encountered among the pilots that opposed me. I would ask them, do they know what they are fighting for? Many laughed at such a notion, such a question, as if we're all abbreviations and emoticons now and no one takes the time to think. but those that did answer?

Are they with the Empire because they wanted to succeed the rules of the Federation, to be the second big frontier? did they join the Empire to become Wealthy? To have power?

Do they hate the Federation for any good reason at all?

Are they firing on me out of conviction to a cause?

No. The answer they gave me? Their ships are prettier.

They chose a side in a war without knowing why there was a war to begin with, because their ships are " Prettier. " They don't care about the slavery, they don't care about how the wealthy are treated over the poor, they just want their big, long, round ship.

If that's what wars are built on, I'll have no part in it. I'll be out there, among the stars, finding my own way.

This is Janette Vasquez, pilot of the Rain Singer, JV-88E Anaconda. See you in the stars, explorers, everyone else, Enjoy your War.

This wasn't a big discovery but at least I followed the trail on my own wits. Found one of those generation ships, caught a listen to the logs. Those people died more than five hundred years ago, to an asteroid born disease. I can't help but think there was some form of sabotage there, what with all the hyperdictions and reports coming in from nearby nebulas.

Seems I have a purpose again, outside of the federation. I'm going to hunt down these attackers, not to kill them, but to see if I can connect the dots on all that's happened.

This line of research seems a whole lot more important than the power squabbles back in the bubble, but I've no doubt they'll be after something here too. Hopefully I won't have to fight anyone, The Rain Singer has a nice paint job, be a shame to get it scratched up.

I'll log my discoveries and attach pictures where I can. Janette Vasquez - Rain Singer JV-88E, heading to the clouds.

PS. Turns out I had the papers to a Clipper, probably won it in a bet or a canyon race. Think I'll outfit it for salvaging.
